Here's the thing....this type of facebook post, and related e-mails, comments in forums, on on-line news stories, etc, show themselves to be of little credibility.

 

The biggest shot to their credibility? At NO TIME has President Obama excluded anyone, including President Bush, from credit in the process of finding and taking out Osama Bin Laden. In every thing I've read, seen, heard, he's given credit where credit is due. I don't recall hearing him say "I" at any point of the way, as far as credit is concerned.

 

I've heard a couple of "I's" but not many. In fact there should be a few "I's" he deserves that. He handle it quite well and has definitely shared the credit.

 

The folks I know, and I travel in a pretty conservative circle, aren't upset with Obama at all. In fact they are quite pleased.

 

The thing that drives this type of post comes not from Obama but from the parts of the left that want to say Bush failed and deserves no credit, and trust me, they are there.

 

 

In all of the accounts I've read of what happened in the immediately preceeding time before the order was given, he asked for the opinions of everyone in the room, and considered them all. I understand there was quite a heated debate. And I'm sure what he elected to do in the end was vehemently renounced at the time. However, he did what the Commander-in-Chief should do...asked for, listened to, and considered ALL opinions, then made the best decision he felt he could do.

 

He executed well as President and Commander in Chief.

 

If there's a difference in his situation and President Bush's situation in the decision to go into Iraq, it's that I think President Obama's advisors may trump those of President Bush's.

The dig at Bush was not neccessary and hurts your point, of giving Obama credit. Conservatives like myself get most upset that the vast majority of the time that Obama is given credit for something, that Bush must be discredited for something in the same paragraph. It is a big part of what fuels the posts like the one we're talking about.

 

But, when it comes down to it, President Obama could have taken a couple of other "safer" routes...he could have chosen to wait even longer, hoping for stronger evidence, or he could have chosen the bombing method. The first method means we most likely would never have gotten OBL, and the if the public became aware that there was any evidence, he'd have been "hung" for not acting on it. If he'd have chosen the 2nd method, there's no guarantee he could prove that we got OBL. Even with the ultimate decision, the risks were extraordinarily high.

He made the right decision.

 

I will say this...the majority of public sentiment was on the side of President Bush in going into Iraq. I don't think the majority of public sentiment would have been with Obama, if they'd have known what was being planned.

I would have to disagree. Everyone I know wanted Bin Laden taken out.

 

I'll say this as well....I think President Obama surprised a lot of people. How many ever thought that if this were the situation, this would be the routh President Obama woul take? Most consider him to be without "chutzpah" from what I can tell. Maybe there will be a little more willingness to consider what he's saying in the future? I didn't say it was a probability...just a possibility.

I agree with you here. There are many. In this incident he definitely was not weak on foriegn policy the way many predicted.

 

Personally I've always thought he has strength of character. I simply don't agree with his social views.

 

One last thing...President Obama's team seems to keep their mouths shut better than some of those in President Bush's team. I never understood announcing our intentions.

I'm not trying to dig at Presient Bush. But whatever his advisors were telling him was wrong, or at the very minimum greatly exaggerated. I feel the advisors in President Obama's case were more capable in delivering sound intelligence. To say so doesn't make it a dig at President Bush. It's simply my statement of my opinion.

Again, it wasn't meant as a dig at all. I'm felt that at the time that President Bush was deciding on whether to go into Iraq there were too many leaks to the press of our intentions. I feel that hurt our chances of accomplishing our goals. Maybe I expressed it a little to light-heartedly for your taste, but it wasn't a "dig". It was a statement of my opinion, based upon my observation of events.

 

And, I'd appreciate it that if you feel that such comments are digs, you also take exception and call out even more blatant digs at President Obama.
