I have seen way more hate for Obama than I have for Bush. I have seen an article that I haven't read yet that seemed to take a dig at Bush but from the people the anti-Obama rhetoric has baffled and saddened me.

 

With all due respect you must not have been watching during Bush's terms. Where is Cindy Sheehan? Aren't we still in Iraq? What changed that made her to decide to stop her harassment of the President. I'll give Obama credit for OKing the mission. Will you credit the ground work that was laid under the Bush administration up to and including that some of the information was gained through enhanced interrogation techniques? While I'm ecstatic that a great evil is becoming fish feces it won't change the fact that I don't like and don't trust this President and I'll not be hypocritical and suddenly act as if I think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I think the perception is that the hatred is always worse for the person you tend to support and there is a tendancy to filter out some of the attacks on those you don't.

This President gets his fair share, but no way on Earth it is remotely close.

How much has the story changed since 10:30 Sunday night? I guess in a rush to get any news out there accuracy isn't important. At first he was killed by a bomb or a missile last week and mulitiple agencies were confirming it. Someone on here mentioned they heard or saw the compound was set on fire. Now I'm seeing that they didn't use women as a shield. Do we have any idea what's accurate or is someone changing the stories the way they want them portrayed?

It's to be expected from a covert action that just took place. Lot's of second or third hand information getting twisted.

Then again, you have to tip your hat to Pres. Obama. That was an extremely gutsy decision to make. Just think about it: while we had a pretty strong belief that Usama was in the compound, from what I've read, the administration has acknowledged they didn't know that for sure. To invade another country with troops is quite a gamble without being 100% positive that the objective is even at the target. It's one thing to send an unmanned drone slightly across the border, but to send combat aircraft and troops pretty deep into another sovereign nation, is something quite different. Particularly when that sovereign nation's cooperation with the US is critical to our national interests and that sovereign nation's relations with the US has become very, very strained as of late because of civilian casualties and shallow incursions across that sovereign nation's borders. Think how we'd react if Canana invaded our country with combat aircraft and troops looking for their highest ranking terror suspect. If it was successful, we'd probably not get too angry; it goes bad and all heck would be paid for Canada.

 

If Usama had not been there, had Pakistani civilians been killed and/or had SEAL Team members been killed, President Obama's chances of getting re-elected would have been toast and our relationship with Pakistan would have been destroyed. Given the tough balancing act the President of Pakistan is already forced to make with a country full of Muslims (many of which sympathetic to the terrorists), a military and intelligence service with long standing ties to al-Quida and Pakistan's importance in the war against terrorism, there was a ton of downside to the decision. Not to be forgotten, Pakistan has a rather large nuke capability and a hatred towards India, an ally and growing partner in our economy. So it's kind of really, really important that we not do things that further jeopardize our relationship with Pakistan.

 

It was a gutsy, gutsy decision; one that if things had not worked out so well, would be being called foolish and "cowboyish" by the media here and overseas.

 

One can if one wants draw parallels to former Pres. Bush's decision to invade Iraq based on WMD intel. Fortunately for President Obama, he inherited a much, much better intelligence capability than former Pres. Bush inherited. While I admire Pres. Obama's courage to send in the SEAL team, I think all but the partisan hacks and wackos on this site can recognize that former Pres. Bush and his advisors played a big, big role in Pres. Obama's decision turning out as successfully as it did.

 

So kudos to Pres. Obama and his advisors, the SEAL Team and all support staff, to the intel personnel that gathered the intel, and to former Pres. Bush and his advisors that put intel measures and capabilities in place that provided the intel that Pres. Obama relied on.

I don't hate Bush ... I do severely dislike how he pushed us into a war in Iraq, which had nothing to do with 9/11, and diverted resources there that may have helped us locate bin Laden and capture/kill him much earlier than we did. Bush even said publicly that finding Obama wasn't that big of a concern for him. I am glad that his successor made it a priority.

Was watching one of the news shows last night and they said the code word the seals were to use if they captured or killed Osama was Geronimo. Reported what was said was "For God and country, Geronimo, Geronimo, Geronimo"... This was the same seal team that took out the pirates in 2009.

Knowing that the initial information used to get the lead for this mission was received using water-boarding, does that change anyone's mind on this issue?
