I see we have differing opinions. I have been less than impressed with Stewart's NFL career. This is year #3 for me on the 'Jonathon Stewart Break-Out Year Watch'. If he was any good they wouldn't have resigned Williams.

 

I have to agree with you, but that is probably because Stewart burned me last year in Godot's league. I'm not really sold on either one and stayed far away in both my drafts this year.

 

Cam Newton has definitely exceeded my expectations.

I drafted Stewart and the next day Carolina resigned Williams.:madman:

He already looks better than Vince Young and I thought he was a VY clone...

Same number of interceptions as Brady and only had one month of preparation for a higher level of football. Leader of his team and has rejuvenated Steve Smith's career to say the least. His upside is ridiculously high. I'd say he has exceeded expectations.

 

I've enjoyed having them both on my fantasy team, picked up Newton in week 3.

You should do it. It certainly won't cause you to have a worse record.

Lots of yards, tons of interceptions, few wins. That about sums it up for me. :idunno:

 

I'd say that's what to be expected when the team has made it their goal to boost his numbers rather than win games.

 

There is no rhyme or reason to anything the Panthers have done this season other than them wanting to do everything they can to make Newton a "superstar". They have two of the better backs in the league and neither touches the ball because all they care about is making Cam look good it seems.

 

You think they are doing it to just make him look good? Wow! They were by far the worst team in football last year, which is why they had the #1 pick. They basically have the exact same team as last year, besides new coaches and Cam Newton. So they have gone from easily the worst team in the league, to a team that at least has competed well with everyone. Their ways of doing things, is the reason why they have even been in games. Actually if their defense was any good, they probably would have won more games than just one by now.

 

So for the Panthers and Newton to be doing what they are doing is very impressive. Especially when you take into account that Newton had no OTA's to even learn the offense with coaches. Yes he has made some mistakes, which is expected. However to not have been impressed with him so far, is just crazy. I do think he will come back down to earth soon though, teams will start preparing more for the pass now. Which in turn will then open up the running game.

Picking Newton up in week 2 was the best move I've made in FF. His trade value shot through the roof and secured me one Matt Forte.

He certainly has flaws.

 

However, he put up 400 yards in the first two games.

 

He also QBd and offense that put up 543 yards against the Bears is the most in at least 11 years that the Bears have given up.

They could care less about winning games, all they want is to bring as much attention to the team and money to their pockets as possible. However, you have to win in order to keep the fans showing up. Their #1 goal is to win.

I couldn't disagree more. Certainly every team is in the business to make money, but Newton's potential is undeniable. The Panthers were terrible last year and they had arguably the worst QB play in the league. They drafted the guy with the highest upside to fill their weakest and the most important position. Nobody expected this team to contend for a playoff spot in 2011 in what may bet he toughest division in the league. They are rebuilding around a franchise QB. Not the first team to do it.

 

That might be believable if they'd drafted someone like Tim Tebow and threw him out there immediately.

You consider what they are doing as tanking their season? Shoot the way they are doing things, are most likely why they have been as close as they have been to winning some games. They put up over 500 yards offense against the Bears, and even gave the defending Super Bowl Champion Packers a run for their money. If they use that running game as you say they should, like they did last year which led to them getting the #1 pick, then they probably are winless right now and not even close in games. What they are doing is not only creating excitement around the team, and even its players, but it is also giving them the best chance to win.

They could've been a solid team last year if they had any kind of talent at all at QB to simply manage the game. They have that this year. They should be running the ball at minimum 50% of the time. They'd have a much better chance at winning. They aren't doing that though because it's a boring unexciting brand of football. They'd rather get the fans excited and make money than put the team in the best position to win.

 

Who cares "how close" they come to winning? It's all about wins and losses and at the end of the day the Panthers are no better than the KC Chiefs. They're looking at another top 5 pick this year in the draft and they could easily win 6-7 games if they were actually playing to win.

What would winning 6 games do for them this season? Besides they have the 25th ranked scoring defense in the league. They aren't going to overcome that by playing ball control offense. If they aren't a playoff team anyway why not let Newton be the focal point of the offense and let him get his growing pains out of the way before they are ready to compete?
