I would still take Babbert, Locker ,Mallett and maybe even Ponder at Dallas instead of Newton. Though they could wait much later to get Ponder which would help the team more overall. JMO.

Charlie Ward was a winner. Chris Weinke won. Leinart and Vince Young both won. I like pro style QB's that can make all the throws and want to learn how to read coverage. I don't want an icon that talks in 3rd person. I'm not going to link it but check out the Boston's Barstool page. I'm pretty sure he is dead on for Newton.

 

The difference between Newton and those guys is that Newton won his only year as a starter and he carried his team. All those guys you mentioned played on teams that I think were better than this year's Auburn team. I definitely understand what you are saying about running a pro style offense. That makes a lot of sense but just because he speaks in third person doesn't mean he won't be a good qb. Just means he's a tool. If he puts in the necessary work it takes for him to be successful and utilize his talent I have every reason to believe he can be a great qb in the NFL. Time will tell if he works as hard as needs to. A lot of the football related question marks surrounding Newton seem to be some of the same ones about Tebow. Tebow isn't an All Pro but I was still surprised by his production when given a chance to play. I'd like to see Newton do well.

I'm not sure there has ever been more red flags for a top 5 talent. Also, Akili Smith had a good year at Oregon after only plying there 1 year coming from a Junior College. How did that work out? There are plenty of warning signs here.

Then he actually worked hard and listened to his coaches for the first time ever this year after spending 18 months in jail and was runner up for MVP. For me it is more about work ethic and if he has a good work ethic then he should be fine. I have yet to see anything negative about his work ethic. Football players do and say all kinds of stupid things throughout their life but that doesn't mean they can't or won't be good football players. Plus he had to deal with all of the scrutiny surrounding his eligibility and still won the championship. Who has done that before? The kid is resilient and if Josh Freeman wasn't at Tampa already I would love to have Cam Newton there.

 

I am not saying Cam will be an MVP either. I am just saying I am not willing to say he won't be successful because he was stupid 2 years ago and he is a tool now. How good he will be will depend on his work ethic and I would like to see him succeed.

They see an athletic guy that can run, and is entertaining to watch and they act like he's the greatest thing college football has ever produced. Then he gets to the NFL and he bombs. Happens all the time. And please don't give me the Mike Vick garbage. Guy played in the perfect system, and played as well as he could ever dream of playing, and it still wasn't good enough.

If you think the NFL is too physical for a QB to run the ball, then don't draft a QB whose primary strength is running the ball. If I pick Cam Newton, I'm telling him to make plays. Period. What Cam would find out (as has just about every other running QB has) is that once you leave the "safety" of the pocket, you are more than likely going to get lit up. Sure you may have a 15 or 20 yard scramble...but you may pay dearly for it at the end. Having someone that's a mobile scrambler like Vick, Steve Yound, Randall Cunningham, etc. is nice...AS A LAST RESORT. But, I don't think you want your franchise QB running the ball 5-10 times a game in the NFL. Too much risk...not enough reward.

11-21 just jumps out to me like crazy. No pads, no pass rush and no coverage to read and you go 11-21 then blame the speed of the receivers? No thanks.

 

I fully expect Brown to draft him if he falls to number 4.

The only red flags you have mentioned have been off the field red flags. You haven't mentioned any on the field red flags. Which would be what? Nothing he has done on/off the field will have him falling below the #9 pick.

Aaron Rodgers is mobile. Drew Brees is mobile. Even Ben Rothlisberger is mobile. 3 Super Bowl Winners there.

Mike Vick(look at his winning percentage), Donovan McNabb, even Daunte Culpepper enjoyed enough success to sign a 100 million dollar contract.

 

To act as if Cam can't be successful based off the reasons you guys have given so far is just not something I agree with. Let me see his work ethic is all I am saying. He has to put in the work to be successful.

Like I said, if you want to hate him for being a tool and a dummy....cool. I am not saying he will be the next Tom Brady. I am just saying that he has shown me nothing to believe he can't be good because I can't see and don't know his work ethic. I have a very hard time believing that a guy with his athleticism who puts in the necessary amount of work can't find some success in the NFL.
