Cam Newton

Okay. To each his own. You judge people off of first impression and I like to get to know people before I cast judgement. Everybody is different.

His first impression could have been the stolen computer that he wrote his name on and threw out in front of the cops. His second impression could be that he was shopped by his father to the highest bidder and the FBI investigated it. His third impression could be missing 10 of 21 throws with no pass rush and no defense to read while telling people he wants to be an entertainer and talking in the 3rd person. I am not saying there's no way Newton will have a great work ethic and turn into a good to great player. I am saying I wouldn't bet on it and I wouldn't use a top 10 pick on him. All of those things don't even mention that QB's from gimicky offenses haven't fared as well as QB's that played a pro style offense.

Lets not compare super athletic basketball players and franchise QB's.

I am talking about you insistence on bringing up his third person references. You have a glaring disdain for his character yet you defend the greatest athlete of my generation who also happens to be the biggest tool of my generation and likely ever. Just pointing out the irony.

And I said despite all of that all I would and that his work ethic to overcome these deficiencies will determine his success. Any player who comes into the SEC(best college football conference)and dominates the way he did(Heisman Trophy/BCS Championship/undefeated season)......I don't know maybe just maybe he may make a good NFL qb. I wouldn't want to be the team that passes him up only to see him figure out how to be an NFL qb.

Like I told UKMF, I don't disagree with any of your assessments but I like the kid and I would take a chance on him early in the draft. I really don't understand what you want me to say. Nothing from the combine changes my mind on that. He wouldn't be the first person to have a bad combine and still have a good NFL career and vice versa.

Super athleteic egotistical tools that don't get it can be successful in the NBA. They can't be franchise QB's. No irony involved.

Brett Favre?

Brett Favre?

Didn't come out of college wanting to be an icon. Also, was a great passer. Newton is a great athlete that will have to be molded into a passer.

Especially when he's never read defenses before; he was a one WR look and then run QB in college.

Aaron Rodgers is mobile. Drew Brees is mobile. Even Ben Rothlisberger is mobile. 3 Super Bowl Winners there.

Other mobile successful qb's....

Mike Vick(look at his winning percentage), Donovan McNabb, even Daunte Culpepper enjoyed enough success to sign a 100 million dollar contract.

To act as if Cam can't be successful based off the reasons you guys have given so far is just not something I agree with. Let me see his work ethic is all I am saying. He has to put in the work to be successful.

I agree with you 100%... what QB doesn't have to put in the extra work. Nobody is saying he would be Elite coming out the gate. But if his work ethic is good he could be a steal for some team.

You would think these was a Bashing thread about Cam Newton the way everyone doubts him like he is some bum of the streets... Judge not....:idunno:

Plenty of QB's have looked great coming out of college and failed in the NFL- Leaf, A. Smith, D. Klingler, J. Russell, C. McNown....

If you turn into a franchise QB picked in the top 5 is that a steal? Nobody is saying he is terrible. I'm saying I hope the Gals don't use the #4 pick on him.

I hope they don't either.

Um, you keep helping my point. I don't care where the red flags come from I don't use a top 5 pick on a guy with this many red flags.

As for on field red flags. How about 11-21 with no defense at the combine? Or the fact that no QB has ever been successful coming out of a gimicky spread offense in the NFL. He's never had to read coverage. He looked at one side of the filed and if that wasn't open he ran. If he does that in the NFL he doesn't start 12 games a year becasue he gets destroyed.

How many have ever had the chance. I've already said I don't think you can compare the new age spread offense to guys that came out of the Air Raid or Run and Shoot offenses. That's JMO, but those offenses are a totally different ball game than an NFL offense. Leach and Mumme would put little to no emphasis on reading the defense, only "find grass".

New age spread QBs are different, and I personally start those with Alex Smith and Pat White, which is not a large sample size (6 years or so). Smith played in the most gimmicky offense of all-time at Utah IMO, and White just did not have the skills to be a pro-QB I do not think. But, McCoy and Bradford looked good last year. Their college offenses were alot different than Auburn's, but I do not think Texas' would be a great indicator of NFL success either because it was just a bunch of short stuff. JMO but I'm not giving up on spread QBs, because every year the NFL goes a little more spread out.

I will never understand some people's fascination with the mobile QB. They see an athletic guy that can run, and is entertaining to watch and they act like he's the greatest thing college football has ever produced. Then he gets to the NFL and he bombs. Happens all the time. And please don't give me the Mike Vick garbage. Guy played in the perfect system, and played as well as he could ever dream of playing, and it still wasn't good enough.

Randall Cunningham?

Especially when he's never read defenses before; he was a one WR look and then run QB in college.

I'll agree with that. But I think that is more on Malzahn's offense than just only on Cam. And there was also no reason for him not to run, his main priority should have been to win games.

I never thought he would be this good what does everyone else think about him?

Lots of yards, tons of interceptions, few wins. That about sums it up for me. :idunno:
