What would winning 6 games do for them this season? Besides they have the 25th ranked scoring defense in the league. They aren't going to overcome that by playing ball control offense. If they aren't a playoff team anyway why not let Newton be the focal point of the offense and let him get his growing pains out of the way before they are ready to compete?

 

And gets fans exciting for what is to come. They could draft some defensive studs this year, make a trade or two and who knows.

Cam Newton has looked like a stud this year. However, I believe that he'll be one of those QBs who will put up numbers and win games but does not have the complete package to be able to put together a bunch of Super Bowl visits/wins. Teams will start to figure him out over the course of the season and I think he'll come back to earth a little bit this year. He'll have to keep improving and keep everyone on their toes.

 

I always think it is easier for a QB their first time through to put up numbers and be tough on the defense if they're ready to play. Matt Ryan has not really improved that much for instance, and plenty of guys look good for a short while. The QB position is ever evolving, I hope Newton is ready to continue his growth because it is needed every season. JMO

I also have no problem with what Carolina is doing. They are putting Newton in a position to get experience and to improve. They are giving him confidence and improving the moral of the fanbase & team.

While watching the RZ channel I did notice one thing about the Panthers, they seem to be in the gun a very high percentage of their offensive plays. I would love to see their overall season percentage.

^You can't win without balance. They have none.

 

They could've been a solid team last year if they had any kind of talent at all at QB to simply manage the game. They have that this year. They should be running the ball at minimum 50% of the time. They'd have a much better chance at winning. They aren't doing that though because it's a boring unexciting brand of football. They'd rather get the fans excited and make money than put the team in the best position to win.

 

Who cares "how close" they come to winning? It's all about wins and losses and at the end of the day the Panthers are no better than the KC Chiefs. They're looking at another top 5 pick this year in the draft and they could easily win 6-7 games if they were actually playing to win.

 

Peyton Manning, Rodgers, Brees, etc. have proven you can win without balence at least during the regular season. Now to have a chance to make a run in the playoffs, your whole having to have balance thing is correct. Carolina was HORRIBLE team last year plain and simple, they really didn't do much to change that in terms of players besides get Newton. With Newton their offense has done really well this year, and kept them in games that they probably are not in if they try to have balance. If they do what you want, then they probably get blown out against the Packers, Bears, etc. However by doing what they are doing, they have actually gave theirselves a chances to win.

 

Now I will say most teams probably came into the year wanting to make Newton beat them with the pass, and focused on stopping the run. Which Carolina also knew, which is another reason why they have passed. Now that Newton has shown that he can keep putting up these numbers, teams will start preparing to stop the pass more and we probably will see him come back down to earth soon. Which then they would need to start running the ball more, which they should be successful at it since teams will now be preparing to stop the pass and keeping safety's out of the box.

Payton Manning won 3 games his rookie year and threw 28 interceptions. I think Cam will be fine.

Not many. I think he'll end up being a very good QB just not a great one.

We must remember that he is still learning to be a pocket passer. He is the ultimate lottery ticket it seems and has the winning attitude you can't teach.

I definitely agree with this statement. His presence and attitude has rejuvenated the entire franchise IMO. The turnaround from last season to this one is really impressive. I know they are still losing games, but they have been consistently competitive so far. Soon, those close L's will turn into checks in the win column.
