Cam Newton

Featured Replies

I've watched every game he has played in so far this season. I am beyond impressed by Mr. Newton.

On the season, he has 5 passing and 4 rushing TDs. He is averaging almost 350 yds/gm in the air. He does have 5 interceptions on the season (as does Tom Brady), but I can say they haven't all been his fault. He really does throw a great ball, especially deep. Regarding UKMF's statement on the wins, I'm not sure what else a QB can do to help his team win a game. He consistently has to drive the length of the field in order to get any points out of a drive. Special teams and terrible pass coverage is killing this Panther team. Overall, I say that a star has been born in the NFL. Cam will be a force to be reckoned with for years in The League, barring injuries of course.

When is the last time a rookie QB came out and played as well as Newton has so far?

He's been much more effective as a passer than anyone expected. His poise is impressive. He still has plenty of room to improve...that is both a word of caution and a scary thought.

I don't think anyone believed he could carry the Panthers offense from day one as he has. They really need to get the ground game going. They've got arguably the most talented duo of backs in the league and they've hardly used them.

They finally did some this week as Williams averaged 8.2 yards per carry while Stewart sat at 6.5. Pretty good production from both backs and I agree that they might be the most talented duo in the league.

That is what they need to do. Take some pressure off of Cam and the passing game and make things easier on him. Of course, I'm guessing the first couple of opponents (at least) were still focusing heavily on the ground game. Cam's passing may have opened things up for them. They should be able to find some balance going forward.

Lots of yards, tons of interceptions, few wins. That about sums it up for me. :idunno:

Same number of interceptions as Brady and only had one month of preparation for a higher level of football. Leader of his team and has rejuvenated Steve Smith's career to say the least. His upside is ridiculously high. I'd say he has exceeded expectations.

Agreed. Using "wins" as a measure is silly.

He has a long way to go but he's way ahead of where most thought he would be.

I'd say that's what to be expected when the team has made it their goal to boost his numbers rather than win games.

There is no rhyme or reason to anything the Panthers have done this season other than them wanting to do everything they can to make Newton a "superstar". They have two of the better backs in the league and neither touches the ball because all they care about is making Cam look good it seems.

I actually think both backs are overrated. Cam wasn't there last year and both backs sucked last year. They still suck this year with Cam. Williams has had one good year. One. Other than that he is overvalued and we are still waiting for Stewart to emerge. Why not focus your offense around the best player of your team? No one expected Carolina to win anything for real this year anyways. Especially in the NFC South. He is making teams serve notice with his numbers and as time goes on the wins will come. Heck, the running backs may be part of the problem.

Mr. Newton has made my pre-season analysis of him look pretty foolish. I was certain he was going to tank.

Jonathon Stewart is the best player on the team.

I really didn't know what to expect but I'd be lying if I said I expected him to have Brady-like numbers so far. I figured it would take him 10-12 games to hit 1,200 yards. Not 4. Just an unbelievable performance so far. When the Panthers start winning he may be the face of the NFL. He, Matt Ryan and Josh Freeman should have some epic battles in the NFC South once Brees passes the torch.

Jonathon Stewart is the best player on the team.

:lol::lol:

I see we have differing opinions. I have been less than impressed with Stewart's NFL career. This is year #3 for me on the 'Jonathon Stewart Break-Out Year Watch'. If he was any good they wouldn't have resigned Williams.

Jonathon Stewart is the best player on the team.

My vote goes to Steve Smith... With a QB who can actually get him the ball, he is an absolute beast again.

Jonathon Stewart is the best player on the team.

I'll trade you Stewart and Andre Johnson for your two best running backs.

^A RB that his team won't give the ball to and an injured WR for SJax and BGE....Yeah that makes no sense.
