February 24, 201115 yr Obviously their road woes have been apparent. A low post presence has veen virtually non-existent. A short bench has compounded matters as well. However, their stellar record at home leads me to believe that these aren't the complete reasons they are losing. Regardless, we shouldn't be losing to teams like Ole Miss and Arkansas when they don't have the talent level or skill to compete with our team. Is it a confidence issue? Is it a coaching issue? If not these reasons, what is it? Also, this is just a bit of a side note but what seed do you project UK will be at in the NCAA Tournament? Or, in this case, if they make it at all based on their performances at times this year. Your thoughts?
February 24, 201115 yr This is a prime example of the downside of Calipari's high-risk recruiting philosophy. If that is going to be the long-term philosophy while he's at UK, a season like this is always a risk. Difficult to build toughness, confidence and leadership when the upperclassmen have the mindset that they have to defer to the frosh on everything.
February 24, 201115 yr There's nothing really wrong with them. They have a lot of young talent, but have zero depth, lack maturity, and have no leader. They are what they are.

I think this season is about as low as it goes for Cal. I just don't see losing the kind of numbers he lost last year as a regular occurrence. And to this point he's brought steallar classes every year. In another year or two he should have a good rotation going of 1 and done guys, plus 3 and 4 year players, but he started with a pretty bare cupboard. That said, I'm definitely willing to accept a more up and down type team (from one year to the next) IF the high points are final fours and national titles.
February 24, 201115 yr Lack of an on court leader is the biggest reason... Leader and a clutch player (in many cases, are one in the same).

February 24, 201115 yr Lack of an on court leader is the biggest reason...Agreed! I see Gilchrist as the team leader next year, he will not let this stuff happen, heck the entire class coming in next year HE recruited! Cal has said this from the begining, SOMEONE needs to step up and lead this team, it's 4 months after I first heard him say that, and still no one has stepped up.

I really think Knight's trying to be that guy. He's been a clutch player his whole life. Ball just hasn't been falling in the hole for him lately.
February 24, 201115 yr Be patient Cat fans...........help is on the way. The Calvary is coming. Let's keep things in perspective, it's only Cal's second season. To hear some, you would think he's been here for 7 years and nothing is happening. I would take Cal over UK's last 5 coaches any day of the week. Like UKMF said earlier in this thread, they are what they are this season, exactly what I thought they would be. Losing 5 guys to the first round of the NBA draft in one season was an aberration, will not be the norm and would have put any coach in a bind. Still sticking with my Elite 8 pick.
February 24, 201115 yr Lack of an on court leader is the biggest reason... Paging Darius Miller, crickets...
