So we are clear, are you looking for kids that were offered D-1 scholarships or just kids that accepted D-1 offers? I think for purposes of what I think is this discussion (is UK not recruiting NKY hard enough?), it should be those offered. I also think for the purposes of what I think is the purpose of this discussion, the timing of UK's offers should also be examined. If a kid from Ky is D-1 caliber, shouldn't UK be one of the first teams, if not the first team other than perhaps UL which is in the same position of UK, to make an offer since the N. Ky kids are in UK's home state? When several other schools much farther away (and thus have a much more difficult job of analyzing a kid's talent over the years) offer first, and then UK makes a "johnny come lately" offer, I think it leaves a very sour taste in a kid's mouth and has a very negative impact on the chance the kid will accept UK's offer. Admittedly, some late offers only come after a school determines that it's "better options" aren't likely to accept.

Yes, I realize you were just stating who was offered but the underlying theme is UK offering local guys.

 

We'll disagree on Grubbs not being good enough to play in the SEC like we'll continue to disagree on UK making a mistake to not offer early to Ky kids. If Stuart Hines from BG is good enough to play in the SEC (and since he starts for UK, he's obviously good enough to play in the SEC), I have little doubt that with time in the weight room Grubbs would have been good enough to play in the SEC. He was a much, much quicker and athletic high school O lineman than Hines was in high school and also had the height and intelligence (a very smart kid) to play in the SEC. And don't start questioning my assessment of O linemen my friend.

That doesn't surprise me. Maybe they think that regardless of when they offer a Ky kid, he'll come to UK. I don't know. All I know is that kids remember who first showed them the love; who first believed in their ability to play high level D-1 football.

 

If UK is too busy in LaGrange and the other hotspots to be able to send recruiters and scouts to such far away and remote places as N. Ky to watch sophomores and juniors; to identify those that seem to have the athletic skills needed to play in the SEC; to start tracking them and communicating with them as soon as permitted by the NCAA; to get them to camps and combines as soon as possible to confirm athletic skills; and then to offer those qualified as early as possible, then I guess that's how it is. Seems odd however that schools much farther away from N. Ky can make those efforts quicker than the folks an hour and 15 minutes away. Guess those schools aren't also recruiting LaGrange and the other hotspots and have more time on their hands to concentrate on the football poor state of Ky.

I don't know if I buy the thinking that UK should be first to offer because they're local. UK has realized that you have to get into certain pockets to get top talent that can compete in the SEC and speed is a common trait in those pockets. That's why we see LaGrange being represented which spreads out to other parts of GA. We also see South Carolina represented. NKY doesn't put out enough SEC-caliber athletes for UK to jump on.

 

UK offered those listed as far as I know with the probable exception of Trevan.

 

As I said earlier they missed on Mike Mitchell despite my emails to Joker stating they were missing out. Everyone missed out on Mike.

 

UK can't be the nice guy and offer "local." It would be terrible if they did and a kid accepts only to have to get bumped when true SEC athletes commit. You can't be wily nily with your offers in the SEC.

Offers are thrown around way too much. A commitable offer is another animal. It may look like UK offers late, which I disagree with, but until a player is able to commit the offer is worth nothing.

I was expecting 10-15 and it looks more like 30 or so once the last two year's players are added. Of the BCS level players, UK signed nearly half of them so maybe the Wildcats do a better job in N. Ky. than some think.

UK missed out on Doho but not due to lack of effort and attention. The lack of winning at the time seemed to move Mike to pick UL.
