I agree with you 100%. I'm no UK or UL fan, but find it ridiculous when out of state D1 schools with higher football pedigrees than UK / UL offer Ky kids yet the instate schools do not. DL Moore, John Cole, Channon Fugate come to mind. WKU isn't much better. To make it even worse, those schools will go out of state and offer a player that has NO OTHER OFFERS!

And this is why Alabama is Alambama and KY is KY. Kentucky just doesnt go after the kids hard enough imo. If Grubbs was on KY radar last yr and they backed off because he commited to Miami then shame on them. Sounds like an excuse to me. JMO. Just cant lose kids to outta state Div 1 programs. Alabama is Alabama because of their tradition, base, reputation, and success. Yes they have better resources for recruiting than UK (Nick Saban). Kentucky was killed by being on probation and having down years after the scholarship limitations that leave NO margin for error. Becoming a competitive program is not going to happen over night. When Grover and Sester were recruited by Purdue, that was not long after Drew Brees was there and they were competitive in the Big 10. Rob Smith went to Tennessee, then they became obsolete after he got there and then Fulmer was let go. Gino Guidugli was set to go to UK but Claude Basset is an idiot and got caught writing a freaking check. So Guidugli decided on UC. UK still got hamblen and Ben Scott and then they started a fire.

 

Kentucky is not Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida, or Tennessee. UK has got some in state recuits recently though that were highly rated, Aaron Boyd 4 star , Sam Simpson #1 center, Winston Guy 4 star . It's not like they strike out. This years class is very balanced and they filled all their needs already. Now that Dawson is pretty much out of it for Florida, UK is likely his choice. UK has done a great job with UK legacies. Lets not forget that Kentuckys best d1 talent is in Louisville. How many d-1 players are in KY? 10 or so each year? The focus needs to remain out of state and sell playing time and hope the recruits pan out. It's not effort.

 

Location kills UK. UK is pretty much in Big Ten territory but in the SEC. That is the first battle to overcome. Being on the border of the SEC and Big 10 and basically between 2 Big Least schools (UC and Louisville). I know it's a lot of excuses but it is fact. You have to see where you are and go from there. More than the majority of each class will be out of state so thats where to focus will be and IMO should be. Even the top guys in Kentucky would just blend in as average recruits in states like Georgia, Florida, or Ohio. Yes they need to get guys that are actually top guys, but those guys are usually in Louisville (Bush and Brohm).

DL moore was offered by UK, but AAron Boyd was in the same class and that was the main focus at WR. Boyd was a very hot commoditiy coming out. Fugate at Tennessee, lots of PT to offer at a traditional power house. Was not offered by UK, some players just do not fit the mold. To my knowledge he has not proven much yet at Tennessee. Please tell me if I am wrong. John Cole, offered by Vandy, Eastern, Western, and Stanford (who throws offers out like none other. I bet they offer 200 people, but do not let people commit until they say so even though they are "offered".) That's not a great list of offers. Ranked #173 on WR's. I just dont see why people think UK is missing so bad.

While you may say Cole did not have a great offer list, his list of offers were as good better than than Eric Adeyemi, Gene McCaskill and Deaunte Mason which were in the same recruiting class. Fugate was a starter at UT most of his freshman year. It's not who UK (or UL/WKU) is missing as much as it is who they are getting instead while missing on instate player.s

Fugate had Zero rushing yards and 21 recieving yards as a starting full back? I wouldnt say that UK is missing these guys too much. It can be easy after the fact and say they should have gotten this guy or that guy. Look at Tennessee with Cobb. I just need better examples to believe this theory.

Moore started every game in 2010 on the most talented WR core of any team in the SEC and had 17 catches. Most people understand the need to recruit out of state, but do not understand missing on Ky players that have offers from other schools that have higher football pedigrees than UK.

I disagree. Get the best players you can and create pipelines when possible regardless of location.

Well as I said in my original statement, it's an estimate (seeing as I'm compiling D1 FBS, and not D1 FCS athletes), but yes - of those that I've been able to dig up, that's pretty accurate.

If memory serves, those numbers were influenced pretty heavily by graduates of Ball State, EKU, WKU (before they went to FBS) and Ivy League schools.

He is a frosh at Miami of Ohio. Give the kid a chance. I have seen both of them play in high school. Grubbs is 6'5 295 with very good feet and athletic ability. The kid was a starter on the basketball team for HHS and was very productive. From what I saw I was much more impressed with Grubbs than Hines in high school..JMO
