It looked to me like he kicked the ball straight into the turf and it took that long bounce into the air. I think that is what the SK coaches were complaining about.

That play was the beginning of the end for SK, they had just scored, had a ton of momentum and then recovered the onside kick. The reversal lead to Ryle scoring with a minute left and taking the lead 21-14 at the half. Congrats to Ryle and good luck next week. SK didn't make the plays and mistakes cost them, not much else to say.

No - he kicked straight in the air, pop up. Never hit the ground. Receiving team has right to call fair catch. That is why most on side kicks are beat into the ground. Nice Idea - did not catch the raiders sleeping.

Nope - it is called zone coverage. Corner hits releases to the safety intermediate and long. Using your description both sides of the field have "double" coverage with two safeties in the lineup. My point was only to say that Ryle played the same defense in the secondary as they have for the whole season. And it was all on tape. Nothing different, nothing special.

Maybe your right but SK would have 3 wide out to one side of the field and Winkler on the other side and Ryle still had a corner and safety on Winkler's side of the field. The other side played straight up man coverage.

I agree 100%. Ryle had the best team and coaches tonight. Made more big plays and zero turnovers. The best team won and wish them well next week.

Now I'm beginning to understand the flag on the onside kick, I couldn't quite figure it out. It was one heck of an effort by Herald and Winkler. SK actually held Ryle to a third and long after the ensuing kick went out of bounds giving the Raiders the ball at mid-field. I had a feeling they were primed for the fake punt, and they executed it to a tee. Ryle pretty much dominated the LOS, Elliott with six carries over 10 yards, and Hempel was efficient with the pass and made some huge plays with his feet again. Ryle went up 21-14 with about two minutes left in the half, SK drove to about the Ryle 25-yard, then proceeded to pick off a Lawrence pass in the endzone. SK received the opening kick of the 2nd and drove inside the 25-yard line once again, and the Raiders picked off another pass in the endzone. Ryle then drove 80 yards in five plays to push the lead to 14. SK's next drive ended in a turnover on downs, then it was a slow death for the Neers. Ryle didn't score on their next drive but they did churn out 59 yards on 16 plays. During this drive the clock just kept ticking away, it started with a 3:46 remaining in the third and once they turned it over just a tad over seven minutes were left on the clock. Hempel made the biggest play of the drive, on 3rd and 12 he converted with a 13 yard run, that ended the third quarter and kept the clock churning. Kudos to the Raiders, they played well, and didn't commit a turnover tonight.

I didn't see the coaches throw the red zone picks? You do that multiple times in any game and your done. Some things went wrong that often don't go wrong for SK but it can happen to any team any night, face it and move on.
