Congrads to JJ Jude, Jim Matney, the Johnson Central coaching staff, Johnson Central, and the Johnson County community.

 

Coach Matney is now the coach for the most passing yards in a sinlge game (Jessie Watts - Sheldon Clark vs Allen Central 1991: 651 yards; former national record) and the most yards rushing in a single game JJ Jude (Johnson Central).That is impressive IMO.

 

Congrats to young man. Someone asked earlier who he is and I guess we all know now who he plays for. Sorry, I did not know who he either but I certainly do now. Alot of J's in there I must say. LOL.

Not sure if anyone can do it this season but this Coach is setting his team up to get crushed by someone in the future and this is a classic example of why individual records are overrated!

And for all you people who live outside Johnson County, I can assure you that nobody outside Johnson County is really concerned if you view this accomplishment negatively. This is a part of the world where there's not always a lot to be happy about, and this is certainly something to celebrate when something outstanding happens, especially for a great kid and his family.

:thumb: So is a youngster came from a broken home the Johnson Central fans would be just fine with his coach leaving him in to throw 10 touchdowns against the Eagles to break a record? We have already seen how Matney responds to a lopsided loss against Boyle County last season. Great effort by the player but poor decision by the coach and indefensible.

Not defending anything that went on last night, here's a question. What do you think of JC being up by 40, puting in their subs, and Woodford's coach leaving his starters in and throwing on every play against freshmen. I feel like in all sporting events it should be the losing team that should throw in the twel first. Jc started to empty their bench early in the first half, In the second half WC was scoring at will. Would you rathr see JC leave the first team D in and win 60-7 because that would have been close to the final in that scenerio. Let's not forget the thumping WC gave JC at home a few years ago that some found excessive.

I was on the Woodford county sideline; and after his 60 yard at the end of the game was called back. He feel in the end zone and had to be helped by the Woodford trainers, two JC coaches, and EMTs; because he was throwing up and dry heaving.Also on three of his runs late in the fourth he ran out of bounce twice and took a knee after a 15 yard run.

Just saw the replay of this on Ihigh. Johnson Central left their offensive starters in the entire game. Many of their defensive starters were still in during the second half, just not the entire group. Also, by looking at rosters on KHSAA site WC had many freshmen in the 4th quarter including on defense. So it was the JC varsity offense against many WC freshmen and jv in the 4th quarter. That is excessive

I would guess that JJ is in the neighborhood of 1800 yds on the season after this performance.

According the the Lexington Herald, Jude is now at 1759 on the season. So he would need for Johnson Central to make the championship game and more than double his output from his first 8 games. I think Frank Jones' 1969 record of 3361 is pretty safe...at least from Jude this season.

That's why they (Johnson Central) are going before the KHSAA I believe tomorrow to petition to stay in 5A so they will be away from Highlands and not have to try and beat them to get to the state finals each year.

I don't have an opinion either way but for the people that do have a problems with this. Did you have a problem when Redman was left in games to throw 7 TDs in a half (he did this more than once). Boone Co leaving Alexander in games to rack up yards and TDs. Robinson throwing for over 90 TD passes in a season. Sometimes a special night just happens and you get a shot at something special. Sometimes teams work hard to run those numbers up.

 

As far as WC passing goes. I might be wrong but I believe they are a Air Raid/Tony Franklin System school. If they are then throwing the ball is what they do.

If a kid has the ability to break the record, you should give him the chance. A coach knows if something like that is important to one of his players. It also takes a special match up for something like that to be possible and when you start to see it happen, you just got to go for it.

Congrats to the player. As for the JC coaches, they are totally classless. GameofLife, there is nothing about this that is special. My Mayfield Cardinals played Fulton County the other night and scored on their first six offensive plays and on 7 of their first 9. Mayfield could have shattered this record easily had they wanted too. This is just one example, there are many other teams that have all had the chance to do so as well but they all took the high road. I deplore this lack of sportsmanship. There is nothing classey about this.

I think if the player has a shot at breaking a state record or is on track to break a record by half-time, why not let the kid do it if he can? If I was a coach I would have left him in there until he broke it. I'll guarantee if the coach would have pulled him and kept him from breaking the record there would have been just as many comments about the coach pulling him as allowing him to stay in the game. It's a "catch 22"

 

This is an accomplishment that this kid will hold on to for the rest of his life, I say congratulations to the young man!
