Football is about winning not setting records. He is lucky this kid didn't get hurt and his season went down the tubes.

I wasn't going to comment on this thread but I can't stand it any longer by reading some of the typical message board know it alls that's commented on this thread. This was a 36 point game people in the end people. JC played everybody they had and for almost the entire second half Woodford's first team was chucking it all over the field against JC's freshman and sophomores. Where's the stat padding outcry on that one? The real joke of the thread is some of the hypocrites that are downing the JC program while they set back week after week and watch their teams put up 60 to 80 points on there opponents.

Lol, I follow highschool football which explains my subscription to a high school football discussion forum, thanks for asking. I hope I didn't step on your toes, but thats my opinion and its shared with many people. I care cause I was a player once and I would have been heart broken if my season was jeapordized for selfishness or foolishness.

It's not the number of points scored that is in question. It is leaving your best player in the game until the end just to get a record.

WOW.

Not sure what is so great about this, especially in light of the fact that this young man's team was in the lead by a wide margin the whole game. What is lost is how the other coaches and players on the other team feel after getting embarrassed like this. What have people become that we elevate individual records over winning with class and dignity. IMO you just don't do this to people unless it is a tight game and is necessary. If a community finds this as a source of pride I feel for them. Winning with dignity and not embarrassing others should be a better source of pride.

This coming from a guy who's team put up 70 points on teams the past two years. 70-0 on Caverna in 09 and 75-6 this season against Fulton County. You think putting 75 points up on a team and having a 69 & 70 point difference is taking the high road? How dare you come on here and say the JC coaches are classless. I'll tell what buddy people that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. The final score was 68-36 and that's heck of alot closer than some of the scores that your Mayfield Cardinals have been putting up by you taking the high road. You even commenting on this game and calling out other coaches who you don't even know is in itself classless and reaks with hypocrisy seeing your past track record.

For the record, Mayfield scored 55 points in the first quarter of the Fulton County game this year, and only 20 points in the final three quarters.

 

I don't remember the particulars of the Caverna game last year.

 

Czar, you obviously know nothing about the Mayfield program. Joe Morris and his predecessors have routinely taken great pains not to run the score up on outmanned opponents.

 

As for Johnson Central's reputation ... where there is smoke, there is fire.

Coach Matney is now the coach for the most passing yards in a sinlge game (Jessie Watts - Sheldon Clark vs Allen Central 1991: 651 yards; former national record)

Matney probably had his kick off return team run backwards so the drives could be longer!!!!!! I have done that on XBOX a few times.

Setting a record during the course of a game is GREAT! Playing the game for the purpose of a record is beyond classless. While the young man certainly felt pride last weekend, I would imagine that there will be some feeling of shame when he matures (which obviously his coach has yet to do).
