Is this the year Highlands gets beat in the finals?

Featured Replies

Bowling Green showed very well tonight against the Rocks. With BG playing that well and Highlands being down from the past few years is the year Highlands gets beat in the finals?

Though Trinity's back ups did well, it is still not the same when you are without your starting qb. In my opinion, Trinity threw a bit of a clunker tonight. Dropped passes, so many penalties. Tough game between both St. X's.

Bowling Green is very good but I am not ready to discount Highlands.

Absolutely not. If they match up, it will be another beatdown.

lol

After watching BG tonight came away thinking it would be one heck of a matchup. Previously thought the birds would be a 2 to 3 touchdown favorite. Not so much now. BG's defense is extremely quick . Not sure how much Trinity was hurt offensively using their third string QB but their passing game was virtually nonexistent. BG's Kicker could be a definite difference maker in a close game. Heard Alabama was interested in his services after coming up to watch some other players. Great game but not expecting the birds to cruise to Number 20 as I had before.

I still think Highlands wins if they meet in the finals. However BG was definitely impressive tonight.

HHS has lost in the finals more times than many decent programs have ever been to the finals, and once to BG, so yes it could happen. I suppose they will have to play the game so we can find out. Bring 'em.

If you compare scores between Bowling Green/Trinity and Highlands/Trinity, it appears that the Purples and Birds should be fairly comparable to one another. I'd still call Highlands the favorite there, but tonight's game has to prove to many (including the Purples) that Bowling Green is perhaps the one other team capable of winning 5A.

To answer the guru's question, 1959 was the year that Highlands was beaten in the finals. That year, which was the first year Kentucky ever had official championship games, Highlands lost to Henderson 12-7 in the Class AA state championship game.

It also happened in the following years: 1963, 1966, 1995 and 2003.

The answer is no. This game did not matter as far as making the playoffs or winning a state championship.

Is this even a topic in a thread?? The last time I checked Trinity played with their 3RD STRING QB and still won. I believe the Birds will have their 20n10..

I sense that the Guru is looking for any reason for the Birds not to win #20...

One thing I have noticed lately is that the guru is trying to stir things up. Not in a bad way though. I think it is a little too much weight on single games though.

Simply put...no.

Highlands offense is too good and nobody in 5A is going to outscore them.
