Is this the year Highlands gets beat in the finals?

Featured Replies

Bowling Green showed very well tonight against the Rocks. With BG playing that well and Highlands being down from the past few years is the year Highlands gets beat in the finals?

I think BG has played Trinity pretty close in the recent past, hasn't it? Yet they haven't won a state championship game recently (since 94?). People need to keep in mind that the Highlands vs Trinity game was indeed a scrimmage. I was there and saw a lot of non-normal game substitution going on by Highlands. Not familiar enough with Trinity's team to know if they were doing the same. I'll assume they were. Thus one should logically conclude if one can be logical that the scrimmage is not an accurate indicator as to what would happen in a real game. I will also point out that Drake Bruns, arguably Highlands most athletic member of the secondary and the best possible match up on Quick, did not play in the Trinity scrimmage. Perhaps Trinity has a key player out that game also. I don't know. But I do know that if Bruns had been on the field that night, Quick's performance would have been different.

Furthermore, from what I read on here, Trinity's starting QB did not play last night. With their offense, or at least the offense they ran when they scrimmaged Highlands, the QB is an integral part of their offense. Take him off the field in the scimmage against Highlands and I'd think the results of the scrimmage would have been vastly different unless the back up QB is just as good as the starter, which I think is pretty unlikely. Actually it shouldn't be the Trinity back up QB we are talking about because, as I understand it, Trinity had to use their 3rd and 4th string QBs against BG due to sickness and and injury to the starter and backup. Perhaps I'm just a little bit silly, but I'd kind of think that just might have affected Trinity's offensive performance against BG last night.

I understand the reason for the question Ru and I realize you are only asking the question, not answering it, but any person that would use the comparable scores against Trinity, given the above points, as an argument that BG will beat Highlands in the finals frankly doesn't know much about football and the affect that using 3rd and 4th string QBs has on an offense like Trinity's. Hopefully they'd have a more valid argument to support such a conclusion.

We are seeing numerous, may I say inquisitive threads asking pretty much negative questions concerning certain programs. Is it surprising we haven't seen anything on CovCath? Seems like losing to tiny NCC would trigger something. Guess not:sssh::rolleyes:

There have been several. One that pops to mind is the "Other than Scott, will Covington Catholic Win Another Game" thread.

I guess you missed the CCH defense couldn't stop a shopping cart thread? :D

People have not been very nice on these threads this yr. Calling teams, coaches and players out. I did hear some guys talking last nite in the stands at the CovCath vs NCC game and one of them called the matchup a "Pillow Fight". I turned around to see who they were but did not recogonize them. I did give them a look though because I think it was quit insulting to describe kids giving it their all. Maybe everyone needs to realize that these are just kids and they are not dropping balls on purpose, nor fumbling balls on purpose, and throwing int's on purpose or missing tackles and ultimately losing on purpose. If kids were doing this stuff on purpose then I would become a betting man. Look in the mirrors people. Go Birds 20n10

...and you want me to make thousand word posts; you need me to make thousand word posts. :D

And while I generally don't answer questions that the person that asked the question hasn't answered himself, I'll do so because you are the Ru: yes Highlands could get beat in the finals this year. Any thing is possible. Birds could have a lot of players sick or injured in the state game or a playoff game leading up to state; they could play an uncharacteristically bad game; another team could play an exceptionally good game. But at this point if I was forced to bet my house one way or the other, I'd put my house on Highlands winning another championship. If you had to bet your ownership of this site, what side would you pick? Come on, stick your neck out there a little bit since you asked others to do so. Answer your own question.

I sense that the Guru is looking for any reason for the Birds not to win #20...

For sure this is an interesting thread. Highlands had 494 total yards of offense yesterday. On defense they held UKs newest recruit to 37 yards on 11 carries. Their starters sat out most of the 4th quarter "again". Coaches of other teams talk about how hard it is to prepare for Highlands because of the so many offensive weapons they have. This team is getting better and better each week. If this meets the definition of a down year, this bluebird household is on the bandwagon.

Highlands will not lose in the state finals.

Never figured you as an "everyone gets a trophy" kind of person.

If I didn't think there was a possibility they'd get beat, I wouldn't make the drive to Bowling Green.
