HHS abandoned its passing game early when it was evident that the db's were able to effectively cover the long pass. Birds D did a nice job of neutalizing Tiger qb's mobility. I hope Mr. Streeter is OK.

Lots of hurt ballplayers in this game. They went into the game with 3-4 starters in street clothes and added 3 or 4 more during the game. Two starting o-line hurt which is not good with them all being new starters. Hope they're all minor injuries although the one to number 29 didn't look good.

Highlands first or second pass play had a deep reciever triple covered by Withrow ( when was the last time you've seen that in high school ?) and no other recievers on the drag route or in the flat. The drag route would have gained at least 30 yards. What's up with that ?

Once again Coach Mueller made adjustments and the Birds prevailed vs. the most athletic 0-3 team I've seen in a while.

 

Patrick Towles is the fastest 6'5" 230 pound QB around. He looks like a gazelle out there. He probably ran for 200+ yards and scored 4 rushing TDs.

 

Hope Josh Quillen (#29) isn't out for too long. Looked like a right ankle injury from my vantage point. With Compton sidelined again tonight, Jake True and Jordan Streeter did a nice job rushing.

No band, it is hard to believe they sit at 0-3 now, they will get their first W next week.

You are right. Most were well after the Birds had built a nice lead though....Pretty sure the Birds were willing to take that at that point of the game. Keeping everything in front of them...Except the one nice long route/throw in the 4th.

That first TD pass by QB #1 for Withrow was as good of play as you will see all year at Highlands. They were in shotgun at about what the Highlands 25? One running back to his right, the play was a trap left, the running back botched the play, QB #1 steps forward and has nothing, turns to his left for a few yards and see's 3 or so Highlands defenders, turns back to his right and scrambles, he finds nothing in the right flats, turns back to his left and scrambles where he has a few of his lineman there waiting, runs up the left sidelines and the Highlands corner starts to bite, then the Withrow receiver sneaks off into the endzone and he just floats it to him for the TD.

Athletes all over the place last night. Towles' running was the key as the receivers were covered most of the time. True impressed me with his shiftiness and Streeter ran hard all night.

 

Its hard to ask your DB's to cover fast receivers for 8 seconds and that was the case on most plays as the QB did a great job scrambling. The seam down the middle appeared open alot but Im sure coach Weinrich will address it in films. Considering the players that were out and who went down the Birds did a nice job of controlling the game and really never putting themselves in a situation where they would lose their lead. It was a fun game to watch.

 

Devin Bruns is becoming an outstanding Defensive Lineman, he was in the backfield many times. Sully destroyed a WR on one play and I could hear it 50 yards away. Ty Siedl can definitely lay the wood also. Abner is a smart and fast player who made some very nice open field tackles.

 

Imo Withrow had better overall team speed than Trinity.

Devon Bruns was outstanding ! Withrow maintained a very tight gap upfront and he made the adjustments and shot them multiple times. Big pressure, 2 or 3 sacks on a very fast QB. I like him at the nose. Withrow could not stop him. Great job !

Does it not concern anyone that the leading passing attack in Northern Kentucky coming into the game, was 0 for 7 in the first half and 0 for 0 in the second half? I get what happened, HHS WRs began sprinting 40 yards down the sidelines and Withrow DBs repeatedly ran with them never turning to look back. The HHS QB had a field day running and put some extra moves on as he ran down the field. Great coaching by the HHS staff to go this route. However, for the first 3 or 4 series of the game, HHS attempted to throw the ball. Regarding the play you are refering to Hoosier, there was a guy wide open in the flat 15 yards downfield in front of the HHS sideline. Teams double cover the WRs downfield, the guy in the flat has repeatedly been open all year. Hopefully HHS will add a short passing attack. Highlands has the best QB in the state and one of the best WR cores in the state and we had 0 completions. It's concerning to more than just this Bird fan.

Closer than expected but considering the walking wounded for the Birds, a W is a W.

 

Withrow played Winton Woods close, so that alone should tell you this team is better than their record indicates. Withrow always is a big team with alot of athletes. Think Bryan Station 2 years ago when the Birds almost lost in the 1st round of the playoffs.

 

What happened in the 4th quarter? Highlands up 34-14 and the Tigers score two unanswered td's? Did Dale start substituting? Or was this a case of Withrow simply finishing strong?
