September 9, 201016 yr Bottom line is that this is a young team with huge potential going forward. Playoffs would be a major milestone and hopefully a stepping stone for the next few years. We can opine about the record against winning teams all we want, I look back at that huge west coast trip, which has been their bane over the past several seasons. The success on that trip IMO has nearly cemented their chances at making the post season (accompanied with Tony's whiners tanking in September). I think it'd be icing on the cake if they won a series in Oct. Let's put it into perspective, at this time for the last few seasons, there were 26 threads already on the AFC North.

September 9, 201016 yr I'm very concerned. I think we're missing an ace and another bat in our lineup to be serious World Series contenders. Gomes, Volquez, and a bad outing from Arroyo is all we need to get knocked out of the playoffs early.

September 9, 201016 yr I am a firm believer once you make the playoffs anything can happen. I can't agree with those who are content with just making the playoffs though. Yeah sure it's great at first, but then what? On to next year where there is no guarantee they make it again. Also it just proves what everyone has been saying all year. I would be upset with a 1st round loss especially since most likely the Reds will have home field advantage.

September 9, 201016 yr This team has clearly overachieved based on all the experts opinions on where they would finish. It has been a lot of fun watching this team rally back and win games from behind and it has been fun watching some of the young pitching develop. I think that a lot of guys on this team may be physically tired but mainly they are mentally tired. Most of them have never been in this position and it has started to take it's toll on them. They need to get home and take care of business and get this thing wrapped up as quickly as possible so that mentally they can get refocused. Imo this is where they need the few veterans more than ever to show some leadership in how to prepare for the postseason. Everyone knows that I have very little faith in the "toothpick" to give them the guidance they need to prepare for the playoffs but here's hoping that he can do that. Imo he needs to get all the starters much needed rest the last week of the season and still have them ready to go come playoff time. I would like to see him go a 6 man rotation the last couple of weeks to give the pitchers more days rest and maybe even limit some of them like in spring training so that guys in the bullpen get their work in as well. This might help determine who goes on the roster and what role they will play. They will have some interesting decisions to make on their playoff roster no doubt. September 9, 201016 yr You know, I struggle with this as back at the beginning of the season, I never really believed the team could get to the play-offs, and would have told you I would be estatic if they did. Now it seems, after they have had a great season, and will make the play-offs, making them is not good enough. While I would like to see them make round 2 of the play-offs, esp if they win home field, I honestly am happy this year with just making it. I look at what they have for next year, and see an even better year for them. (assuming they get some improvements in the outfield and stay relatively healthy). Next year I do not think I will be happy just making it. I kinda think this year 'spoiled' us, and expectations were un-fairly raised.

Don't get me wrong. I'm excited to still be in contention and heading towards the playoffs. I've just seen too many small market teams get there and not get back for a while. THIS particular team has nothing to do with 1995. THIS team is all we can judge.
