I have a question the minute HHS called off the dogs (IMO to early) BW came with an all out blitz package the entire series. Something that they did not do in the first quarter. Obviously BW is playing to win the game but I think no way should that game get within 20 pts. You wait till you have a running clock before you sub freely. The starters should never have to come back in a game period. I am sorry but if I do pull my starters early I expect much more from my second unit. IMO they did not get the job done. I know some posters might get defensive but kids wait to get on the varsity field of play and when you get an opportunity you need to seize the moment. It was not done tonight. I do agree with the guru that based on what I did see tonight this scheduled series needs to stop. This is not the BW team of years past. Not even remotely close.

You will be impressed with the Birds JV. They were hitting on all cylinders last week at Ryle. Seidl pound for pound is the toughest RB in NKY's soph class, McCoy can do it with his legs and arm. Brendan Houston was in the Ryle backfield the entire game I heard.

Clyde a win is a win but if BW would have scored and the margin was less than 2 TD in the 3rd quarter and things got close; BW got a pass to hang around and who knows what might happen. I am sure you are hoping for the same in the coming weeks. I am glad nobody got hurt and I know a few starters were rested; so let's take the win and move forward. I just think bad things happen when you let a team hang around. Two 5A schools similar in size, I would go full throttle

I think you are selling your Bluebirds short. I think Beechwood did blitz before that series but you didn't notice because your #1 offensive line ate it up. This game was lopsided more because Highlands is that good these days, not because Beechwood has slipped that much. Watch Beechwood as they keep getting better this year and then watch them next year. I think Beechwood could run the table the rest of the year. The only place where Beechwood is struggling is interior line size. For whatever reason, there just aren't the usual 2 or 3 dominating big guys on the line these last couple of years. But there are a couple there this year that will get there. Beechwood is going to be fine. They did what they are supposed to against the Birds second teamers and that is a good group. Sorry they could not get it done against Beechwood but they aren't supposed to, right? Cut your guys some slack. Your ones did their thing tonight and your 2's got some valuable experience against a good team.

The positive view would be that your backup qb got experience with the varsity against the other team's 1s. I seem to remember the Birds needing a sophomore qb to come in and take over last season.

I don't know who that is directed at but I have always been in Dale's corner. All I am saying is if the game got within 2 scores late in the 3rd quarter it might have got to close for comfort. Let's not forget that BW gave HHS a few early scores. Let's be glad it did not come bite us in the butt.

It wasn't directed any anyone in particular. All Highlands has done is start the season 3-0 with big wins against Manual and Beechwood and a victory over Ryle in a game many thought would spell the end to HHS' win streak, despite the program losing one of the most talented senior classes to graduation and playing with a lot of new starters this year. I'm happy with how things are progressing thus far.

 

And I disagree with the comment that Highlands got nothing from this game. Highlands was involved in a very physical, emotionally charged game last week, and this game (against a much smaller opponent) gave the Highlands coaching staff the opportunity to rest some key players who would have otherwise played (and gotten banged up even more) if the opponent had been bigger and better than BW. I don't know about you guys, but I'm hoping (and expecting) Highlands' season to go 15 games this year; 15 games is A LOT OF GAMES to have to stay healthy for. Maybe this was actually the perfect opponent for HHS at this point in the season.

McCoy came in with 4:55 to play in the second quarter and I'm glad he did. Highlands had the game under control and there is no need to keep your starting QB in the game under this situation. Face it there is respect from both coaches for each other's programs and there is no need to humiliate the other team. Highlands got to work on plenty of things and Beechwood continued to play as Highlands made their subsitutions. Good luck to both programs as they move on.

 

Excellent point! Mueller is a class act! So things didn't go as planned. Birds are so solid. Mueller has a ton of respect for Beechwood. They are a class program. Respect and admiration for a program means more to Mueller than the score. Bottom line is a win!
