You will be impressed with the Birds JV. They were hitting on all cylinders last week at Ryle. Seidl pound for pound is the toughest RB in NKY's soph class, McCoy can do it with his legs and arm. Brendan Houston was in the Ryle backfield the entire game I heard.

Agreed. Why does the top 5A program even schedule a tiny 1A program? Neither team benefited from the game. IMO a week of the football season was wasted away. Hopefully both programs learn a lesson from this mistake. Good luck Birds and Tigers on the season.

Last I heard is was something like 27 HHS to 7 Conner.

 

This was at the end of the third, but during the phone conversation, it sounded like Conner could be going in for another score. Haven't heard anything yet.

Because at the time they were the big dogs in the area and it probably seemed like a win-win situation. I doubt that anyone saw the Beechwood cupboard thinning out like it has. Beechwood has scheduled CovCath for years and no one has complained.

Beechwood will be back. Mayfield went through it a few years ago and I'm sure it will happen again at some point. Hard for the small schools to compete against the bigger ones with all their depth .

OK people. I find all this talk of Beechwood's demise amusing.

Am I missing something? If that is slipping I think there are a lot of programs around the state that want to start slipping. How high are your expectations for a 1A school everyone?

 

Beechwood is good enough to compete for the title in 1A this year, they will be even better next year and I see talent and even some size coming in this year's freshman class. Beechwood's program is in good shape and will compete with everyone they play ... except Highlands (more on that later). So Beechwood lost to the biggest 5A school in the state with a D1 prospect at QB and to arguably the best football team in the state and now we talk about them slipping. I don't think there is another 1A school in the state (sorry Mayfield fans) that would beat either of those teams. Let's see how this season plays out before we start thinking Beechwood is slipping. If they win a title this year making it 3 of the last 4 what would you say?

 

As to playing Highlands, I don't have a problem with chasing the dream. But IMO the Highlands program right now is at a level never before seen in N. Ky. Maybe Ryle can get them but I actually think Highlands may beat them worse the next time they play. This Highlands team is going to improve quite a bit as the season goes on and I am not sure Ryle will improve as much as Highlands will. And Ryle is the only team in N. Ky. with even a prayer of a chance against Highlands this year. So if Beechwood is playing Highlands knowing that it will take a perfect storm for them to make the game competitive, wants to test themselves against the best and learn from it, I don't have a problem with it. I do think Beechwood got better from playing that game. If that game works for Highlands in their schedule, then go ahead and play it. Beechwood doesn't need to go undefeated. Beechwood wants more state titles and if playing this game helps that cause, then keep playing it.

If it was a joke you should have left. I doubt if your feelings were a concern tonight when decisions were being made. Oh by the way Mr. "All Knowing" Compton was injured and didn't play. Your lack of knowledge about the program is very apparent. I'm sorry you had to suffer tonight. Think about the troops overseas before you throw around the word suffer so readily.

Yes, we all know this and we all know how important this man is to Highlands football. I have the utmost respect for Dale, but he'd be the first to tell you he isn't perfect. The comments by posters on this thread have all been constructive in nature. "A wise man is he who listens to counsel; A fool is right in his own eyes. Many posters on here need to take that to heart.

I have a question. Is a person not allowed to express their feelings on a public message board? You dont have to like it but just because you dont agree with it doesnt give you the right to call a poster names and accuse him of not knowing anything.

It wasn't directed any anyone in particular. All Highlands has done is start the season 3-0 with big wins against Manual and Beechwood and a victory over Ryle in a game many thought would spell the end to HHS' win streak, despite the program losing one of the most talented senior classes to graduation and playing with a lot of new starters this year. I'm happy with how things are progressing thus far.

 

And I disagree with the comment that Highlands got nothing from this game. Highlands was involved in a very physical, emotionally charged game last week, and this game (against a much smaller opponent) gave the Highlands coaching staff the opportunity to rest some key players who would have otherwise played (and gotten banged up even more) if the opponent had been bigger and better than BW. I don't know about you guys, but I'm hoping (and expecting) Highlands' season to go 15 games this year; 15 games is A LOT OF GAMES to have to stay healthy for. Maybe this was actually the perfect opponent for HHS at this point in the season.
