5 TDs and probably around 250 yards is working the D over pretty good. The 14 yard run weaving his way through multiple tacklers in the 1st half at 3rd and 10 showed his toughness.

 

Why not let him break the state record if that is what he does in one half? At the end of the day this is football and not lets feel sorry for the other coach. There comes a time when Beechwood has to step up and defend someone also. They put their pants on the same way the Birds do and even though the Birds are deeper and more talented you have to reach deep down if your Beechwood and stop the bleeding.

Why does the Highlands band do the same thing each week?

McCoy needs work too. You never know....Would have been interesting to see him work behind the first line. Do not think he had that opportunity. Gall had a very nice game.

 

I think he did for one series. It seems the O-line was the last unit substituted out. I think he would have got a lot more out of it with more time back there.

Easily. One thing I thought was interesting is that Highlands opened the game with an onside kick. At first, you might think that was poor sportsmanship, .

I some what agree with Whackem. Put the petal to the metal! There is never a reason for any JV player to be in the game in the 2nd quarter, when your varsity starters who have been working hard since, December, 2009, only played about 15 plays on offense. You get the running clock, then you put in the JV. This years former JV juniors and seniors played about a total of 12 plays the entire varsity season last year. They understand the hiearchy of football. To have to put your varsity players back in when the score gets close, is asking for pulled hamstrings, etc. by them standing on the side line for an hour. Furthermore, it's an insult to them. A victory should be your varsity players being happy, not hacked off. Pad the stats for Towles and company. Towles is being looked at by some serious programs and so are some of his teammates.

Face it there is respect from both coaches for each other's programs and there is no need to humiliate the other team. Highlands got to work on plenty of things and Beechwood continued to play as Highlands made their subsitutions. Good luck to both programs as they move on.

Well, then McCoy will certainly need an ice bath after he suits up again at 10am tomorrow morning out at Conner for the JV game. He will have logged about 7 qtrs in less than 24 hours.

All this after a blow out win. If Highlands would have lost this game , they would have had to call out the National Guard !! :lol:

I have a question the minute HHS called off the dogs (IMO to early) BW came with an all out blitz package the entire series. Something that they did not do in the first quarter. Obviously BW is playing to win the game but I think no way should that game get within 20 pts. You wait till you have a running clock before you sub freely. The starters should never have to come back in a game period. I am sorry but if I do pull my starters early I expect much more from my second unit. IMO they did not get the job done. I know some posters might get defensive but kids wait to get on the varsity field of play and when you get an opportunity you need to seize the moment. It was not done tonight. I do agree with the guru that based on what I did see tonight this scheduled series needs to stop. This is not the BW team of years past. Not even remotely close.

I agree with NCBird above. I believe there is much respect for each other's programs. Coach Mueller was courteous tonight with his early substitutions. If he had left his offensive starters in another series or two, I think nearly everyone at Beechwood would have understood but some grumbling would have started by a few. Even the Highlands haters in the Beechwood crowd were commenting that Mueller showed courtesy tonight.

 

Beechwood was horrible the first quarter. Some of that was clearly Highlands doing. But Beechwood gave the Birds some absolute gifts tonight in that first quarter with the fumble, the defensive back tripping and falling and the bad snap into the end zone on a punt that the kicker failed to kick out of the end zone. You can't spot Highlands 21 points. Highlands is clearly better than Beechwood but it would have been nice if the Tigers would have showed something early on. The Tigers never stopped fighting and maintained honor by continuing to play hard and coming back. I don't care if it was mostly second teamers they were against. Many teams would have lost composure and effort facing a 30 point deficit at Highlands but the Tigers kept working. They can take some comfort that their efforts caused the Birds to bring the first team backs into the game for the last three offensive series and then stopping those first teamers on 2 of those 3 possessions.

 

I am not sure if this game helped Highlands except getting a lot of varsity minutes for their second teamers. But I do think this game helped Beechwood a lot. There was some definite improvement on both sides of the ball from the beginning of the game to the end and there was a lot of character built in the face of tonight's adversity. How much they improved ... we will find that out next week when the Tigers take on Holy Cross.
