In that formation, the safety was cheating to the far hash at least 9 nine times before HHS called that play in the 3rd quarter. It would have been nice to have called that play way earlier in the game and take away the double coverage to the strong side of the field, which finally occured after that play.

Just because you you play a better team doesn't mean you get away from what you do!!! The Tigers play the best in the state for a reason to get better not to try and use trick plays! IMO that is the wrong thing to do and knowing Noel as I do he will play his game plan and work on getting better not trying to work on tricks and gimmicks!!!

 

I fully understand that line of thinking and you may be right. However if a coach determines "doing what you do" isn't working and is interested in trying to actually win the game, then I think most of them will bring out the gadget plays. Knowing Noel also (although perhaps not nearly as well as you do) I think he'll throw in every thing and the kitchen sink to beat Highlands. And if that means gadget plays, we'll see them. Even if they don't work against Highlands, one never knows when one of those gadget plays will be needed down the road to perhaps pull off a playoff win. If you don't practice them a lot and actually try them in real game situations, you are simply not near as likely to pull them off.

 

But again, I understand your line of thinking and the logic behind it.

Beechwood goes from the frypan to the fire this week. Who scheduled these pre district games? If this team isn't all beaten up after these past few weeks. The district schedule should feel like a cake walk. So many schools take the easy road. Schedule lite. Then hit the district schedule mentally and physically ready. But you guys in Beechwood have a different way of thinking. And thats good. Good luck Beechwood!! Impressive!!

56- 8 Birds and there will be a running clock. Might be a good opportunity for the Jv'ers to get some time since they cant seem to find a team willing to play. I understand with Beechwood cancelling their JV game due to lack of numbers and possibly being beaten up after this Friday's game but when Manual cancelled that kind of seems silly.

Thanks LN just wanted to say that Beechwood is a good team and will work hard to get better. Trick plays are great just look at what the birds did the first play of the regular season.Mccoy almost had a TD pass before Towels.

Running clock in the 2nd half with Highlands playing alot of younger kids. I don't think Dale will run the score up on the Beechies and I think Bwood will likely score a TD or 2 in the 4th, but, by that time I expect the Birds to have put up 50+.... Highlands 54 BWood 14

Not to mention scrimmage one versus Conner (which Beechwood won if that happens in a scrimmage) and scrimmage two versus Boone County (who beat Beechwood on the last play for the ones). 6A ... 6A ... biggest 5A in the state (Dixie) ... best team in the state (Highlands) ...how's that for a season opening 1A schedule?

From what I have seen of Beechwood this year-the heydays are gone!

 

They will still be a force in A-no doubt about it, but the days of them thinking of beating teams like Highlands or even a Dixie are over. Not as much talent there now, and though I think Rash is a good coach, I don't see the fervor like in the days of Yeagle.

Please remember this post next year. I am not wishing away this year at all and expect to compete for a state title this year. But next year is when the heralded "freshman champs" class will be seniors and they will be able to play with anyone barring injuries. Can you remember a Beechwood team that played platoon football? This one is pretty darn close to it. Just one or two players going both ways full time. There is a lot of talent there but it is still young due to all the players lost to this year's senior class. Don't let the roster size fool you.

I agree they will have several solid Sr's next year but they wont have the sophs/jrs that can compare to other bigger schools like Highlands and Dixie. Even though that group beat the Birds as frosh you gotta understand each class at Highlands just re-loads with talent each year and next year you will see some of this year's current frosh step up possibly and see some Varsity time.

VOR-I am not basing my opinion on roster size alone. More importantly-I am basing it on talent. I saw the Dixie/Beechwood game, and unless there are six studs out with injuries to the Tigers-if they play Dixie again next year-Pike will still be there and Beechwood can't stop him. I think Vocke is very, very good, but I don't see the supporting cast.

 

Perhaps it is unrealistic for a 1A school to go toe to toe with the big boys, but in the past Beechwood could do it. I just don't see it now.

There were several talented "studs" making plays for the Tigers in the Dixie game that will be back next year and will be bigger, stronger and better. If you didn't see them, you didn't watch close enough. But you are right about Pike. He will be back also. He was the difference in the game this year and he very well could do it again next year. But I didn't see anything in the Dixie game that tells me Beechwood couldn't beat them this year, let alone next.
