If I remember correctly , back then , that little corner was the best part of the field especially after a heavy rain ,

I am so glad that you brought up baseball in a football thread (anybody who knows me, understand that baseball is my first love) and yes I will be happy to respond and even explain why it is that way at the moment.

 

BTW your new Baseball Manager is an outstanding gentlemen and someone who I have all the respect in the world for and I indeed wish him and his team the best! I just hope he is given a chance to see his dream come true! :thumb:

 

First you need to understand there were only plans to build new dugouts and those plans were for a much later date. Now you did notice I said dugouts meaning plural and not just one?

 

What happened was when the Marge Schott Foundation agreed to make a sizable donation to CovCath to build the new sports building between the football field and the baseball field, some work with a backhoe had to be done.

 

Now since I have heard two sides to this story, I will tell both sides.

 

One says it was an accident that the backhoe driver had when he was driving his equipment around the dugout but in hitting it he did enough damage to the Old CovCath dugout that they had to replace it and the other story is that someone hit the dugout on purpose and did enough damage so that the school had no choice but to replace it.

 

Now before the work even started to replace the damaged home dugout, some parents/coaches questioned why not knock down the visitors dugout also and build both at the same time!

 

Those parents were (from what I was told) were willing to do the work and even get the supplies to get the work done but they were told no.

 

Now I have been told that a new dugout will be built soon, but at this time with the expense that the booster club has recently had to incur, I am not sure how long before the new dugout will be done for the visitors.

 

Now understand the new dugout at CovCath and the pitchers warm up area are but two years old, so considering how old the problem of the visiting team side of the football field is at HHS, CovCath has years and years before we need to fix the problem on our baseball field.

 

So there you have your answer and BTW, your welcome! :lol:

And, as the season unfolds, it will be interesting to see how JC's defense steps up. Their offense can score points, however if their defense can't get off the field, their offense isn't built to come from behind. Boyle County was able to put some points on the board against the Eagles, and it will be interesting to see if others can as well.

While your comment about playing JC at JC is true, I honestly don't think the new stadium has the feel or the intimidation factor that the old JC stadium did.

 

The old JC stadium with the cars surrounding the field, the smoke pouring out of the grill near the sidelines and the huge crowds not only sitting shoulder to shoulder to each other but standing shoulder to shoulder along the sidelines was outstanding. :thumb:

 

To this day, when I think of the best HS game site, the place that is Friday Night High School Football, it was the old JC stadium.:notworthy::notworthy:

 

Now truly I like the new place but it isn't nearly as intimidating as the old place was! :idunno:

Some of the folks that attended the new digs in 08' said it was a pretty intimidating place to play. There is not one doubt in my mind that these two will be going head to head again this year.....I'm predicting now that it will be the best game of the season.

JC is well coached, but will be no match for the Bluebirds this year wherever they would play. A three touchdown game. Highlands toughest game already happened in a scrimmage.

True, but Highlands did "lose" that scrimmage, so the 'Birds can be beaten. Also, JC often seems to improve as the season wears on, and so I suspect the JC team playing in November will be different (better) than the one that played against Boyle County and Knox CC.

I can't imagine why. It was a nice, new stadium with plenty of parking close by. The fans couldn't have been nicer. The only negative on the whole evening was the Deputy Dawg who chased a bunch of Highlands fans out of the end zone, and saw them off with "And I hope your team loses." Nothing about it was intimidating. That was Johnson Central's best team and they played like it. Great game. One of my favorite road trips.
