Highlands 29 Ryle 14

Featured Replies

I know I am late to the discussion and it may have been talked about previously, but I think Ryle hit the Panic button a little early. I say that because after the fumble on the 1st play of the 2nd half, the next 3 posessions Ryle started their series attempting to pass. The result was they end up in 2nd and 10 or more, and were behind the 8 ball. Highland offense then played ball control for good portion of the 2nd half. By the time Ryle went back to starting their series by running the ball they were down 2 scores. Even then they were having some success moving the ball, but ended two of their drives with TO's.

I am not saying that Ryle could or would have won the game, I think the best team won. However, I think once Ryle got down early in the 2nd half, they got away from their bread and butter. I was shocked Elliot didn't have another 8 - 10 touches in the 2nd half.

Thanks for getting the thread back on track. Perhaps it will stay there.

Ryle could have been in a huge position to win win they would have prevented that Bird Td right at halftime. They would have had a bigger lead and the ball not to mention wouldnt have felt deflated.

Thanks and we are on a roll now. :D

Ryle's safety was right there, but Towles simply threaded that pass in there. It was B E A Utiful. Ryle's safety couldn't have missed batting the ball down my more than a couple of inches. Great change in moe heading into the locker room.

Great adjustment (note singular tense) by Highlands D in the second half. I was told by one of the coaches that the only adjustment made was moving the LBers up some, to close the gaps at the line of scrimmage to keep Elliott from getting up a head of steam past the LOS.

That was a nice ball in a crucial situation. I thought it was a great game to watch but I think the second matchup might be even better once both teams get all the wrinkles worked out. It is pretty impressive to watch the Bird's find ways to win no matter how many starters they lose to graduation.

I thought Ryle played a pretty good game especially at DCM, my only criticism would be the quick kick but I look forward to the next matchup. It is nice to see a game that Highlands plays that isn't a blow out.

I agree with you about the next matchup. I'm sure the kids and coaches are only worrying about Beechwood, but I'm worrying about week 10 against Ryle already. :D

When my sons played, I loved the blow out wins. With them gone, I appreciate the closer games much more.

And while I've already pointed out what a beautiful pass and reception it was, I need to point out what a great job the O line did in pass protection. It was an obvious passing situation and the O line did a great job giving Patrick the time to get off the pass. Well done boys.

Oh your sons are gone? I thought from your indepth involvement in HHS football, you still had kids in the program.

I think its all part of living in Ft. Thomas. My brother in-law there several years ago. About two blocks from the school. It was made VERY clear to him that he was now a Bluebird fan :) Sorry I missed the game. Sounds like it was a good one. My question is did both teams come of it healthy?? Good move by Ryle picking thier bye week this week.

Yeah, that was huge. Even the muffed extra point didn't seem to matter. You could feel the change in momentum.

Both at dear old Centre. But I'm still pretty close to the program.

Was a little shocked also! ( 4 touches for 43 yards 2nd half for Elliott)

I cant believe he only had 4 touches after the way he broke off a couple nice runs in the first half.

Well, that explains it. Who needs a paltry little 10 yards per carry average?

All kidding aside, I wonder if he wasn't quite 100% after all.

Are the dugouts and bullpens the same for Home and Visitors at CCH baseball field? The visiting pitcher has about 3 feet to stride off the rubberbefore he steps over a 3 inch ledge onto concrete in the visiting bullpen and the dugout is much worse. Care to respond???

I am so glad that you brought up baseball in a football thread (anybody who knows me, understand that baseball is my first love) and yes I will be happy to respond and even explain why it is that way at the moment. :D

BTW your new Baseball Manager is an outstanding gentlemen and someone who I have all the respect in the world for and I indeed wish him and his team the best! I just hope he is given a chance to see his dream come true! :thumb:

First you need to understand there were only plans to build new dugouts and those plans were for a much later date. Now you did notice I said dugouts meaning plural and not just one?

What happened was when the Marge Schott Foundation agreed to make a sizable donation to CovCath to build the new sports building between the football field and the baseball field, some work with a backhoe had to be done.

Now since I have heard two sides to this story, I will tell both sides.

One says it was an accident that the backhoe driver had when he was driving his equipment around the dugout but in hitting it he did enough damage to the Old CovCath dugout that they had to replace it and the other story is that someone hit the dugout on purpose and did enough damage so that the school had no choice but to replace it.

Now before the work even started to replace the damaged home dugout, some parents/coaches questioned why not knock down the visitors dugout also and build both at the same time!

Those parents were (from what I was told) were willing to do the work and even get the supplies to get the work done but they were told no.

Now I have been told that a new dugout will be built soon, but at this time with the expense that the booster club has recently had to incur, I am not sure how long before the new dugout will be done for the visitors.

Now understand the new dugout at CovCath and the pitchers warm up area are but two years old, so considering how old the problem of the visiting team side of the football field is at HHS, CovCath has years and years before we need to fix the problem on our baseball field.

So there you have your answer and BTW, your welcome!

Oh I do apologize for answering your question so late after it was asked but I was away from the office for most of the day today! Work sometimes gets in the way! :idunno:

I remember tackling a runner on the Highlands sideline and landing on blacktop.

Wow..now I know I'm old. I remember tackling and being tackled on cinder track!! Back then we knew how to spin to get the opposing player to 'cushion' us from cinders. :)

I remember when I was a kid that a small corner of one of the endzones was actually blacktop
