Trinity/Highlands Scrimmage

Featured Replies

Alright' date=' let's try this again. Is it possible that Highlands can still "lose" even if they win? Trinity is a very young team filled with some very gifted sophomores, but how will it reflect if the scrimmage is even close? Heaven forbid the other scenario that Highlands loses to these soph's only to have to face Dupont Manual the following week who's arguably the #2 ranked team out of the Louisville area. The more I think about this schedule the more I realize that it's alot tougher than some make it out to be. With a potential for back to back wins for the Louisville fans, they may have to break out the riot gear.....no worries.....ain't gonna happen that way.[/quote']

What?! Assuming this game is played like a regular game with both sides going all-out to win, Highlands will be fortunate to come away with any sort of victory, whether by 20 points or 1 point. It's Trinity we're talking about!

Also, Trinity isn't the only team in the scrimmage playing with a bunch of new starters. Highlands may not be starting as many sophomores and juniors as Trinity reportedly will, but it will be the first start for a lot of the HHS boys.

Here's something for the more knowledgeable BGP'ers to weigh in on... a lot of folks on this website have been saying this scrimmage means so much to each team/coaching staff/fan base that both sides will be playing to win it. Also, it sounds like this scrimmage will be played under a 'real-game' format. If these things are true, then are Trinity and Highlands, in effect, playing 11 regular-season games this season, instead of 10? Could this come back and bite these two programs later in the season/post-season when they go up against teams that are basically one game "fresher" than they are?

Also, how is this scrimmage any different than a regular-season game against a non-district opponent? Will HHS and/or THS try harder against a regular-season opponent?

I have often heard and read that football (and a football season) is a battle of attrition. If so, then is it wise for a team to schedule a scrimmage that is a de facto game worthy of keeping score?

Was scheduling this scrimmage a mistake???

Exactly my points, reread post 52.This is like an 11th game as far as Highlands looks at this. I dont think this is the typical scrimmage per se. If Highlands wanted to get guys ready and evaluate their talent then they wouldnt be scheduling the Rocks. Mistake, I dont think so, not from Highlands standpoint, cant really speak for Trinity. Go Birds 20n10

Both coaches have been doing this long enough that they will treat this as just what it is - a scrimmage. They will try to win, but the first goal is to evaluate their own team.

Amen to this TAlum...it's only a scrimmate in the second week of August, nothing more. People will spin it toward their point of view. But it is only a competitive practice session between two teams whose coaches want to find out what kids can play....

How dare you Trinity fans put a voice of reason into this discussion.

Manual is #3 at best.

1) St.X

2) Trinity

3) Manual

Does Manual play Trinity or St. X this year?

They are in the same district as X and they do play us this year, yes.

Wow Manual has one heck of a schedule then!

Yes, this new voice of reason is very confusing.

Do we have a confirmed time? I have seen 7:00 and 7:30?

In the past, I know the Baseball team staffed and worked the concessions for drinks and pizza anyway. Probably will see something like that again I would think. Not a full concession though.

After asking around it would appear that a FULL concession and grill, as well as spirit wear will be set up for this game. According to the "word on the street", Trinity will be travelling a good crowd, and I'm sure we will see a great home crowd for this "Kick Off Classic / Scrimmage". Let's hope for a good gate for a good cause and no injuries for either team. I'm sure we're going to see some great football.

What is confusing about Rocket 20's post???

My comments were aimed at you, not him. Guess you didn't pick up on the sarcasm.

In any case, fans on both sides understand what this scrimmage means. It's both important and unimportant. It just depends on what you take from it.
