Boy, if 4A has Highlands, CovCath, LexCath, Boyle County and Bell County, it's going to be a very competitive football class. I wonder what classes Johnson Central and Lone Oak will be placed in?

Russellville has 167 boys, so that would knock Ballard Memorial out, at least for the monent.

I'm hearing the same thing, and the numbers seem to bear that out.

 

All the new housing should be complete by next school year. I think they are estimating 750 Total enrollment this year and that could bump up another 20 or so once all the housing is completed.

The one thing that is interesting to me is that Russell is in 2A with nobody anywhere close to them and Bell County is in 3A along with Fort Campbell. I suspect there will be several schools trying to move up to lessen travel distances.

Johnson Central is in 4A. I was hoping Bell was going to be 4A , but it looks like they are 3A.

 

Four A has some nice teams. Lone Oak, Ashland, Russell, Martha Lane, Rockcastle, just to name a few.

Another thing ... McCracken County is scheduled to consolidate three schools (Heath, Lone Oak and Reidland) into one for the 2012-13 school year. That would be one year into the new setup.

 

How will that affect classification? As it stands, District 1 in Class 2A would find itself losing two teams after the 2011 season.

 

Nelson County will be splitting in the 12-13 year as well, which will drop NCHS out of 6A (enrollment-wise) and appear to put them and Thos. Nelson on the line between 4A and 3A. Would like to see those schools in district with Bullitt East, LaRue Co., Marion Co., etc.

I hope that whatever plan the KHSAA adopts it will include a provision to maneuver teams into new districts to guarantee at least four teams in each district. These first round byes (two this season) aren't good and they aren't fair, especially since a little bit of wiggling could easily solve the problem.

Thanks for the link. Franklin County's enrollment figures are inaccurate on this link. According to the KHSAA single year enrollment numbers, Franklin County's enrollment was 536 in 2009/2010 and 536 in 2008/2009. That would put them in 5A based on the link rather than 3A.

I would appreciate it if someone would figure out what all 6 classes would look like under the new system. I guess I could do the math but I am lazy! Thank you in advance. Also, I am taking it that this is 100% how they voted and will definately implimented.

I've started putting together a mock alignment, and one problem I see out of the gate in 6A is that currently Boone County, Ryle, Dixie Heights, Simon Kenton, and Campbell County all have 6A enrollments, all pretty comfortably. With only 32 teams, that means only 4 team districts, ergo one of those teams is going to be an odd man out. I can't fathom how you would split up Boone County & Ryle, or Dixie Heights and Simon Kenton. But Campbell County is further than anyone from the other 6A schools. Any guesses how they play that one?

Well Campbell County is in the 10th Region in baseball/basketball so perhaps they could be placed with Scott County, George Rogers Clark, Madison Central?

Seriously though, a couple of thoughts...

 

Poor Holmes just can't escape the Bluebird. I have a feeling that if Holmes were allowed to play 2A next year, it would only be a matter of time before Highlands was put down in 2A with them.

 

I wonder which alignment Dixie Heights prefers: getting hammered by Highlands every year or getting hammered by Trinity/St. X about every year?

They are split now. Different classes for football. Different regions for hoops.
