Corbin and Bell Co. in 3A District 4 could be interesting.

Wouldn't the number of "move-ups" from A to AA create the opportunity for the same number of the smallest AA schools to move down, according to the proposal, keeping that class at 32?

 

I dont know? That is what I am asking. Lets say you have 10 class A teams move up, would that move 10 AA teams down?

 

If that is the case then you could really end up with some bad match ups.

I'm curious to see the current districts set side by side to your guess at what the districts will look like for 2011. Can you do that?

 

My proposed alignment is on the left, numbers in the middle are 09/10 enrollment, and current alignment on the right. When teams are in the same district in both alignments, they are next to each other. If there is a space to the left of a team in the right column, that means they move out of the district. If there is a space to the right of a team in the left column (technically, to the right of their enrollment), they moved into that district.

137 of the teams would remain in the current district, which is just north of 60%. Very few teams change districts within the same class - much more because of movement between classes caused by contraction of smallest and largest classes. Given the upheaval, that's not too shabby. It breaks down thusly (numbers based on the teams in new alignment):

 

1A: 31 of 32 teams in same district (Bishop Brossart moves from District 3 to District 4 to fill gap left by Gallatin County & Trimble County moving up)

2A: 23 of 40 teams in same district (Middle districts are nearly identical. Changes by and large occur on extremes of state)

3A: 14 of 40 teams in same district (Widest disparity of any class)

4A: 22 of 39 teams in same district

5A: 20 of 39 teams in same district

6A: 27 of 32 teams in same district (Changes caused by current shortfall in D4 and Fern Creek falling, necessitating shifting of a couple of Louisville schools and from NKY to Louisville)

I would think that Ryle would be put in a Louisville district before Simon Kenton.

IF one of those two schools are put in with the Louisville schools, Simon Kenton would be the logical one to do it to based solely on geographic reasons as they've closer to Louisville than Ryle is...of course its by maybe what 10-15 minutes or so, but they'd probably be put there.

I think it's virtually the same, but they'll just have to figure out who to mess over in that scenario. One goes from a district that is entirely within 30 minutes of each other while the other goes to one where the nearest school is just over an hour away. This problem is probably going to happen, as I think it is unlikely that any of those five schools will get knocked out of the new 6A. Dixie Heights is the closest to the bottom, with only 3 other schools below them. Unless they take a real nosedive in male enrollment, there will be five NKY schools in a class that will only have a maximum of 4 teams per district.

I agree Ryle would be closer. If its miles, shouldn't you shift someone from Lexinton move over to Louisville and someone from NKY down to Lexington??? But if its about money how can Simon Kenton complain with all $$$$$$$$ they are spending on their football program!!!

I personally think it would defeat the purpose for them to be allowed to. Even if they are, I don't know that there are any 5A schools with a significant amount to gain from playing up. Geographically, most of the 5A schools aren't isolated. Two that perhaps would not be very happy would be Graves County and South Oldham. South Oldham would gain geographically by playing up, but competitively would suffer. Graves County would gain one nearby school, but would still have to travel to Owensboro, and the other schools in my scenario (Muhlenberg County and Henderson County) actually increase their travel versus the Christian County schools and Hopkins Central.

My bet is still they'll inconvenience one district rather than two districts. If you sent, say, Dunbar to the Trinity district, those schools in the Louisville district will still have to travel an hour+ to play Dunbar and vice versa, as they would if Simon Kenton was there . If you then sent Simon Kenton to take Dunbar's place, Simon Kenton still has to travel 1.5 hours to reach that district, and now those schools have that inconvenience as well, instead of having all schools within 30 minutes of each other.

:idunno: I live between S.K. and Ryle. When I drive to Lexington it just seems closer than Louisville. I understand that it is better to inconvenience one rather than two. I checked google maps Ryle is 6 miles closer than S.K. to Louisville

They'd possibly send Ryle then. I don't know which it would be, just guessing really. But unfortunately, one of them is going to go, and I think they'll go to Louisville and not Lexington. There may be a few cosmetic changes, but by and large I think what you see in the 1A and 6A part of my alignment is going to happen. Those are the easiest ones to predict as they have the least change from current.

Let's not be so diplomatic about this ... no one is going to "play up" to 6A. No one.
