Question, Where does thiese enrollment numbers come up with, I seen on another site, where there are alot of differences.

The enrollment numbers I used are the 2009/2010 enrollment ONLY, and are available on the KHSAA site. That is the only year we know for a fact will be included, but it will be a two year average used - we just don't know what the second year is for certain. The numbers you probably saw are the average of 2008/09 and 2009/10. I believe it would be a mistake to use 2008/09 because only the freshman class for that year will ever play under the new alignment, and will do so for only the 2011 season (as the senior class). I don't see the sense in setting a four year alignment based on numbers that won't reflect a single student in the school one year into the alignment. So that's where the discrepancies come from.

Are those figures based on the number that will be within the actual school building itself, which I believe is only housing grades 10-12? If so, I could possibly see your number being accurate, though even then, I don't think they are. The 3 grades that would currently be 10-12 at a consolidated school are still over 800 students. Which really wouldn't matter, since grade 9 would factor in as well.

 

In the 09/10 enrollment, Lone Oak had 485 males, Heath had 325, and Reidland had 253. Combine Lone Oak and Heath alone and you have a 6A school, before even touching Reidland which will put them way over the top. Even going by the Ad Hoc numbers (which I disagree with using since 08/09 will be irrelevant by that time), the smallest possible 4A school (which Lone Oak is nowhere near - they're one of the largest) has a 415 average. The smallest possible 2A school (which Reidland is in the bottom third but still about 15 schools above) has a 200 average. For the purposes of this example, we'll continue to call Heath 2A, though they will actually be 3A in the new alignment. 415 + 200 + 200 at the minimum numbers is still 815 and well above 6A level. I don't know what numbers the paper was putting up, but I don't see how a 4A and two (current) 2A schools could combine and expect to be anything other than 6A.

I believe that the paper was giving the 10-12 grade numbers..Even then i see your point. The real number including 9th grade should be 850 or so. The thing to remember is that a lot of people around here are against the consolodation and i believe that the other schools in the area will benifit by kids enrolling there..this could mean less numbers for the new school..which by the way they are building to hold 1600 and by all accounts is already going to be overcrowded before it opens..Ky government at its finest...
