July 27, 201016 yr I know you guys are Bengal fans and all, but I don't see how some of you all are thinking this is going to be a horrible thing. A couple years ago you had Chad, TJ, and Chris Henry (rip). Now you only have Chad. There is a reason the Bengals ran the ball so much last year and it was because there wasn't anyone to throw the ball too. TO is a blessing for next years team IMO, and will open the offense up a lot. As been stated, I am a huge Cowboys fan, I got a little upset when I found out JJ let TO go, so that should tell you something. Guys not that bad I promise. Only thing that will kill you about TO is that he don't catch the ball with his hands, they are terrible. He basically uses his freakishly gifted body/athleticism but that has worked out good for him. He normally tries to catch the ball by pinning it to his pads instead of like most great NFL receivers and snatching it with his hands. Because of this he will drop passes most people would catch, with that said he will also make plays a lot of people cannot make. If y you don't let the drops get to you, he really is a good guy to have on the team, and fun to watch.
July 27, 201016 yr The Bengals could use TO at this point. The defense was solid, the running game was very good, but they were somewhere around 26th in passing and still won the division. They need another solid WR to go opposite Ocho. While I truly dislike TO it might be a risk worth taking for one season.
July 27, 201016 yr The two hesitations I would have: 1) The most obvious is Owens' personality. He has a history of dividing teams and causing havoc. This is not an opinion, that is a fact. With so many volatile personalities in the locker room, you have to wonder if it is too much for a potential Superbowl team. Owens was quiet this past season. Maybe it is a sign of maturity, or maybe it was just being irrelevant up in Buffalo and nobody caring. 2) Something most keep ignoring is Owens' age. He turns 37 during the season. His production has dropped the past couple of seasons. Whether that is because of age or a product of where he was playing, you normally don't receive a jolt from a 36-37 year old wide receiver. I do not dislike the current receiving core as much as a lot of Bengal fans do. I thought last season was just as much about Palmer as it was receivers not making plays. On the other hand, Owens is not being asked to come in and make 90 catches with 1200 yards and 12 TDs. I would assume he is coming in a #2 or #3 option on the team. Can he accept that over the course of a year? I would roll the dice with one eye closed.
July 27, 201016 yr If TO comes to the Bengals I see him taking Henry's role. Go deep to stretch the D and if he's open throw it. I don't want him trying to make big catches over the middle on 3rd down. I would hope the TE and Shipley solve that issue. Palmer had some bad throws last year, but mostly I think it was b/c he only trusted two people and one didn't play after breaking his arm. Palmer tried to strong arm a lot of throws to Chad b/c he trusted him and him only late.
July 27, 201016 yr TO would be a nice pickup for the Bengals. Not a necessary one IMO, not the missing piece to a Super Bowl run or anything like that but one more WR couldn't hurt. But if you're expecting the Dallas, Philly or San Francisco TO go ahead and get ready to be very disappointed.
July 27, 201016 yr ESPN interviewing Chad now and he is giving it to them saying age isn't anything. He said it will be "Batman and Robin" type deal with him and T.O and age to them is like a fine wine, they only get better with age. He also made the quote that he didn't know who would be able to watch them because all games have been moved to Pay Per View. Safe to say Chad is very excited about this.
