Someone said this earlier but listening to Cawood on the radio. Use to turn down the volume and listen to him instead.

Same for Jack Buck for the Cardinal games.

I miss kids going out and playing instead of playing video games or the computer.

Essentially, not worrying about the everyday trials of life. Just being a kid, knowing you'll be fed, generally happy, and you could play until it got dark outside. I miss playing ball until it felt like your fingers and toes would fall off because of cold. I miss thinking that pro athletes were the greatest people on the planet. I miss reading a book or watching a movie and thinking it was actually real.

Nail on the head with this one. After your out of schooling and you gotta start being grown up, it sucks .

Some of the things I miss from the past...

Sunday doubleheaders

Tin dippers and cold well water

Saturday morning cartoons (looking forward to them for a week)

Home movies with projector and screen

Popcorn made on top of the stove

What about you?

Especially the first bolded and the last bolded. The water and dipper was alway sitting on a table in the kitchen at my great granpa's in Wayne Co. Best water ever, and was always so cooool when it first came up out of the well. As for stove top popcorn, there is none better not even the best movie popcorn is better than home made stove top corn.

I guess some of the UK basketball games today are still on tape-delay, but when I was a little fella almost all of the weeknight games weren't shown live. My Dad used to talk my Mom into letting me go to sleep at around 7:00 pm or so & then he'd wake me up at around 10:30. Game would come on at 11:30 & we would watch together. Doesn't sound like much, but for an 8 or 9-year-old that was beyond cool. Also where my passion for UK basketball began.

Good times.

To this day I have this spot in my heart that has never been fixed due to the death of my Father in 1964 my Freshmen year at CovCath. Events like Mr. Tieman Memorial Mass today bring back some strong feelings of my missing my Father so very very much and the joy that I wished I could have had in introducing my Dad to my Em his Granddaughter.

....when kindness was cool and not weird.

...Alabama Larry.

Chicken and dumplins.

Popcorn on the stove.

Basketball/baseball games from scratch.

Bottle rocket wars with the sawed off wiffle ball bat.

Home run derby.

Ghost man on first.

Pitcher's clutch.

Many, many more!!!
