Clyde
I'd suggest Mr. Votto get used to not making the team.
LRCW
I ge that, but Votto plays first base and only first base. Howard, Gonzalez, and Pujols ALS just play first base. If the game didn't matter, Infante would absolutely not be on this team. Manuel wanted some versatility from a player so he can mix it up and do some different things at the end of the ball game. Votto should be on the team...but not over Infante. It's an apples oranges thing. I am aware of that. For the record Votto struck out and made a complete fool of his self yesterday. And like I said earlier, you reds fans should have zero beef with Infante. It's Howard who I would be upset about. I agree with you that Votto should be in over Howard, but that in no way makes me contradict myself. As I said before if you want to win you take the best players. Exactly what kind of "mixing it up, and doing different things at the end of the ball game" would make Infante a better choice over Votto?
MJAlltheWay24
I'd suggest Mr. Votto get used to not making the team. It is very unfortunate, but I completely agree with you. I called Votto getting snubbed. I hate that it is the case, but that's just reality when you have Pujols, Howard and etc. Either way, I've put in about 40 votes today, might put somemore in later. The Scribe
I'm guessing when Manual was told that he had to pick players for the bench, he took it to mean he had to take bench players for the team and chose Infante. This is the byproduct when you tack on home field advantage for the winner. Managers pick lefty middle relief guys and pinch hit specialists because if the game is close late, you may need one or two to win the game. I liked it the old way when the best players were chosen because the game was an exhibition.

MJAlltheWay24
I don't know about the rest of you, but Cincinnati native, Kevin Youkilis is getting just as many votes as Votto from me.
Capernicus41
I have a few things to add but first off I think all of you are too caught up in stats. This is the All-STAR game, not the "best stats over the first half". Sure Votto is having a great year but in a league where 1st base is stacked, it's just tough luck. Who would you replace for Votto? Pujols absolutely not. Gonzalez, no way. And how could Charlie take Votto over his own guy? If it was suppose to be the best players in would they let the fans decide? Lets be honest here Votto benefits from playing in a cracker box while Gonzalez plays in a freaking parking lot. Should that count against Votto? No... but all you have to do is look at the stats to see that Votto is significantly better home vs away. My point is Gonzalez is the better hitter. Ask any GM in baseball who they would take, and I would guarantee everyone of them says Gonzalez, Pujols, Howard over Votto. The All-Star is more of what have you done in the past, then recent. Just look at when Cal Ripken Jr, when he was batting in the low .200's, made it or Griffey towards the end of his career. The bottom line is it is a popularity contest and quite frankly outside of Cincinnati not too many people know about Joey Votto. *It is very interesting that the fans had a chance to vote Votto in, and they didn't. The players had a chance to vote him in, and they didn't. Manager had a chance to put him in, and he didn't.

If this game was about the best hitters, then both of these guys are in, but it's not. Unfortunately there is a ton of studs at first base, and small market guys like Votto are not well known. MJAlltheWay24
Maybe the people across the country don't know Votto because until this year the Reds haven't been very good. Maybe its because the Reds' games are pretty rarely shown on ESPN (national television). ESPN loves themselves some Pujols and Howard, as they should, but that shouldn't discount what Votto has done this year. He is completely deserving, maybe not as a starter, but should certainly be on there.
malachicrunch
I think one thing lost in all of this is that 3 Reds are on the team. When's the last time that happened? I really like the fact that Rhodes made it.

And I think the 3 guys at 1st ahead of him are deserving. There are plenty of other guys we could make an argument for too: Youk, Weaver, Werth, Garcia from STL has a 2.10 ERA as a rookie. Rasmus leads all center fielders in HR's and RBI's I believe. If stats were the main case then all those guys would be in, but it's not. Bye the way the Reds do have 3 guys in there, so it's not like they are getting completely snubbed and forgotten.

MountainThunder
He's also "trying to win the game" by leaving off the most productive hitter in the league over the 1st half. Food for thought... :thumb:
Devil4Life33
Can't.........vote..........any.........more...................................fingers.........................in................a.........................................knot......................................Good...............Luck................................Votto! I feel your pain (literally) I'm at least 300 votes in today, I'll try to muster up a few more, but I've moved on to having my parents vote at their house with both the laptop and pc. I think going against Billy Wagner will be tough even if Braves fans don't really care.
