Greatest coach of all time. Back in the 60's him and his teams are what got me started watching college basketball.

He touched many lives and will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. RIP.

He was and still will be a great model for aspiring coaches. He will be missed.

ESPN Classic is running a John Wooden marathon. The 1975 title game between UCLA and Kentucky just concluded.

Wooden passing made me remember the documentary on HBO a few years ago. They spent 2-3 minutes of the documentary covering Sam Gilbert the notorious money man at UCLA. I came across this article with some interesting quotes from Bill Walton.

I read an article on ESPN.com this morning that said Wooden's only losing season as a player or coach in his lifetime was when he went 6-11 in his first season at Dayton. Does anyone know how many years he coached at Dayton? Are there any memorials at Dayton High or in their gymnasium for Wooden?

He coached there one year and it was his only losing season ever. Ryan Ernst in today's Enquirer said one of the members on that team still got a Christmas card from Wooden.

Not only was he one of the best coaches ever but also one of the best overall people, he has some amazing quotes to live by; "Talent is God given. Be humble. Fame is man-given. Be grateful. Conceit is self-given. Be careful." RIP Coach Wooden.

Sad to hear. RIP Coach.

Simply the best. I loved hearing him talk. He was such a wise and truly genuine person.

Sad news, but he said that he wanted to be with his wife. Wooden is a legend and I can't say a bad word about him for what I've read about him.

Two years, and as of only a couple of years ago they don't, which is a shame!

He won every kind of style you could imagine (except slow down ball). Pressing teams. Gifted Centers. Guard oriented squads. Pressing, playing half-court, you name it.

 

He was a great tactician, recruiter and molder of character.

Wow, I had no idea that he passed away until just now. My mouth just dropped. This is really really sad news. He was absolutely the greatest college basketball coach of ALL-TIME! RIP John Wooden.
