April 26, 201016 yr Isn't it ironic that perhaps the most heraled football recurit at UK went undrafted while fellow teammate and former walk-on John Conner went in the 5th round. Sadly, Micah just never figured it out. I stand by the comments I made 4 years ago that he should have put on some weight and put his hand on the ground. LB was not a good fit for him. John Conner is a great story.

John Conner is a great story. He was a good college LB. But for the next level, he may need to do exactly what you said and put on some weight OR look at the DE position.

John Conner is a great story. Todays paper was bashing Micah saying he always took wrong gaps, wrong angles and wrong steps in pursuit of the football and frankly wasnt the play maker. It also said he wasnt well respected by his teamnates. I think he would have made a good MLB and I wished the Bengals got Conner.
April 26, 201016 yr Conner is one of my all-time favorite Cats. I think he's going to have a great career in the NFL and he's in a great situation. I hate that Micah never figured it out, but he just wasn't fast enough to play LB in the NFL. I see why he played it in college but he would have been better off playing somewhere that they would have put him at DE, as far as his pro career goes IMO.
April 26, 201016 yr Conner is a dying breed; he is a natural lead blocker and as long as someone is running power I, he will have a place in the league. Micah Johnson should maybe look to get on with a 3-4 team as an outside backer. I don't know how his pass rush ability is, but his body type and size seem like a more natural fit for that position than for an inside backer position, JMO.

ARcher and company wanted to move Micah to DL his freshman year, but the old man wouldn't let them. Brooks promised Micah he would play LB and that is where Johnson wanted to play. It probably did cost him at the next level.
April 27, 201016 yr I remember some of the threads when Johnson committed to UK... Guess some of those predictions never really played out...
April 27, 201016 yr I tutored John Conner in math last year, and he was just about the hardest working athlete I had. He wasn't the best at the subject, but he was very very willing to learn, and had a great attitude. Honestly it kind of blew me away how polite and respectful he was. He is a great guy and I wish him nothing but the best in the NFL.

I know that Brooks sang his praises and constantly called him the best blocking FB in the conference and one of the best in the country. It says a lot about him that he didn't get a lot of carries and his job was to block, but gets drafted by the Jets. His work ethic and willingness to do the dirty work that doesn't get a lot of glory made him a popular Cat and could win him a spot in the NFL. Tim Lester (EKU) made a career out of clearing a path for The Bus! First with the Rams, then Bettis asked the Steelers to get him in Pittsburg and he served the same role there. I wish 'The Terminator' nothing but the best!!!
April 27, 201016 yr I saw somewhere yesterday Micah Johnson was going to a mini-camp with the Giants.
