April 3, 201016 yr Very sad news indeed, goes to show that even on Spring Break teenagers need to have better judgment and instincts. Prayers to the family.
April 3, 201016 yr Word I got is that they were "balcony jumping." Apparently both fell, but Massa was not injured, or at least not badly.
April 3, 201016 yr Sad loss, prayers go out to his family. Periodically I will flash back to periods of my youth and think to myself, I'm lucky that I didn't get seriously hurt or die after some of the bonehead decisions I made, life is so fragile.
April 3, 201016 yr This is very sad news to hear. As a parent its your worst nightmare. My daughter will be 18 during her Spring Break in a couple years and if I have to follow her around that whole week I will but by no means will I send her off alone.
April 3, 201016 yr As I said in the other thread, this is very sad news. I had the chance to cover X during football season and talk with Matt not only about football and his recruitment, but also life in general. He always had a smile on his face and was the type of person that tried to make the best of everything. Thoughts and prayers go out to the James' family and St. X community. I can't begin to imagine what his friends and family are feeling right now.

I've seen people do that many a times and thought that they sure did have alot of faith in those railings. I for one don't even trust balcony's much any more, certainly not the railings.

April 4, 201016 yr CINCINNATI -- A "drunk and belligerent" 17-year-old Notre Dame football recruit was killed in a fall from a fifth-floor hotel balcony during his senior-year spring break in Florida, authorities said Saturday. "Witnesses and friends indicate he had become drunk and belligerent," Humphreys said. "He had leaned over the balcony rail, was shaking his finger at the people in the next room over. He fell over." Humphreys said the railing at the hotel met the standards for proper height.
