Mine was and always will be Barry Larkin. The man was the reason I fell in love with the game I still love today. I will never forget running the bases after a game when I was very young and going to the dugout after. He came out into the dugout where he forgot something that happened to be next to me. I looked up in shock that it was him and he high fived me and asked if I enjoyed the game. I don't even think I answered I was so in shock and if I did it was just nodding my head. I then went and told my dad I was never ever washing my hand again. It's one of those memories I will never forget and still gives me that warm feeling in my gut to this day.

I liked Larkin. O'Neil...not so much, at least as a Red. Seemed like he matured after he went to New York. Remember him mostly for throwing his helmet while he was here in Cincinnati.

As far as all-time, I guess you can't pick the entire Big Red Machine, huh? Loved Pete for the hustle, Bench for the dominance behind the plate, and Perez for the clutch hits. But, if I had to pick just one, it'd be Morgan. Loved the combination of average, power, speed and the fact that he played D with a teeny tiny glove.

A little later on, Eric Davis was probably one of my favorites, even though it seemed like he struck out a lot. Was a gazelle in centerfield, and enjoyed watching him play D.

I am actually going to do a project on Barry Larkin for a class of mine. It is a class about commemoration and I am going to do an exhibit, short video, and hall of fame acceptance speech for him.

Johnny Bench and it wasn't even close as a kid!

I always loved how hard Pete Rose played. Eric Davis as I got a little older. Haven't had anybody like those guys in awhile for me. Pitching wise I always liked Tom Seaver, Mario Soto and The Nasty Boys.

Next tier down were guys like Sabo, ONeil, Conceptione (sp), Oster, Casey, Foster.

I think Bruce and Votto have the potential to be very likeable guys for years to come.

Bench was one of the best without any doubt, but he's a royal jerk in person. One of my buddies grew up going to the country club where he golfed regularly and we'd caddy there for tips. I caddied for him (or for someone in his foursome) probably 20 times over the years. He was far and away one of the grumpiest, nastiest, most egotistical folks I've ever had the misfortune to meet in my life. It was very disappointing.
