How many points is Newport better than CCH right now?

Can CCH's perimeter handle the length and athleticism of Newport?

Can Newport shoot as well as they did against Ryle?

Will Newport play zone?

Who wins?

Newport should zone the Colonels and force them to shoot from the outside wher not one CovCath player shows any confidence. Newport has the athletes to dcefend Thelen and Wellbrock. The biggest thing will be the way Newport shoots.

I would expect Luther to front Thelen making any entry pass tough and Collins to play behind him. Mcdaniels matches up well with Wellbrock. The Cov Cath guards will have to step up or it could be a long night.

The arena backdrop didn't seem to bother Newport; I will go with them for that reason. Great to see the support that they had there tonight.

On paper Newport has it all over CovCath in this one. Their guards are better, they shoot better and they come off an impressive win. Newport is probably a 10 -12 point favorite. However... this CovCath team plays to the level of its competition. I think what you saw in the St. Henry game were kids afraid to blow it. They felt like they were a better team than St. Henry, and were expected to win. They tightened up when things got close.

I don't think they believe they are expected to win this game. I think they will play much looser and more consistently. I expect this game to be a nail biter as well.

That would mean they also play above their heads when facing a better opponent. Too many double digit losses to say that. Newport by 8.

Newport by 10-15. Covcath simply doesn't match up well with Newport.

I see it being close early and Newport gradually pulling away throughout the game. Wildcats will zone Covcath and force them to shoot over top of them, just like they did to Ryle. Defensively, Covcath will have trouble defending Luther and Foster. (Although I do think Connelly v Luther will be fun to watch...both kids can jump out of the gym)

Match ups:

Sizemore v Pauly

Luther v Wison

Foster v Heimbrock

McDaniel v Wellbrock

Collins v Thelen

Coach L would be crazy not to start Connelly in this game, IMO.

Newport should win by double digits , however sometimes they play to the level of their competition as well and it could bite them, But i do not see that against this Covcath team, Should win by 14 or so.

I agree with this but I would be shocked if he did it.

As far as the game goes, unfortunately I do not expect the Colonels to win. I do think they could, but I do not expect it (unless Newport really struggles in this one)

After the Holmes vs. Cov. Cath. and New. Cath. vs. Newport District Final games, I would have picked the Colonels as a slight favorite to win. If Newport and Cov. Cath. both play like they did last night, Newport will blow the Colonels out of the BOK Arena. It is hard to predict what version of the teams will show up. But...it is hard to shake what I saw last night. Let's say Newport by 10.

Exactly. One game scenario, anything can happen. How many people would have expected Newport to beat Ryle?

I'll take Newport by 9.

One thing I've noticed about Newport is they will allow the other team to dictate the tempo of the game. Last night the game didn't get blown open until Ryle put the press on to speed them up, which IMO played right into Newport's strength (I know time and situation dictated putting the press on). That is why I think Cov Cath will have a chance to keep it close, if they slow it down and make Newport play defense for 30+ seconds at a time.

If I'm Newport I sit in a zone and beg the Colonels to shoot. As someone else posted, there wasn't one outside shot taken by Cov Cath that had any confidence behind it and if you don't think you'll make it you more than likely won't. I might not even put anyone above the free throw line until they make a shot.

Of course I have only seen Cov Cath once and seen Newport about 7, so my POV could be a little skewed based on sample size.
