No, I will have my man John Robinson, father of Michael next to me as he's been Jason's main backup. We will be in the same spot. Please stop by the booth. Could be tough if we lose with his son being a senior, so let's not lose. Jason's surgery went very well and he called me an hour after surgery. Strangely though, he made a lot more sense and knew a lot more about basketball while coming out of anesthesia.

You guys do a nice job, I was listening in the other night. I loved it when you were slapping the press table.

Thanks so much. I've had so many people ask me what in the world did you talk about during that St. Henry game, but as long as the ball goes up and down the floor, there's always something to talk about. And I'll say this publicly, hopefully I've slapped my last press table. For a second I thought I was up in the loft at CovCath. You should have seen the looks from the other end on down. I'm sorry to the boys for letting this low shooting percentage get to me.

Let's talk about the positives, for one they made the tournament, and getting shut out last year was really hard on this program. They avenged a loss to St. Henry and are still playing. I think the St. Henry game in December was the only game this year where CovCath was upset. This team has gotten some grief for celebrating the way they did after the St. Henry game. I think people that said that are for one dissing St. Henry and any time you beat Dave Faust, celebrate, and any time you advance, go crazy because you're still alive. Also I heard people say they should act like you've been there. Well this team was 8-19 last year, did not make the tournament and were not there. I say C-E-L-E-B-R-A-T-E all day!!!!!

I didnt mind in fact if I had a dog in the fight I would have been doing the same thing. I love the compassion. :ylsuper:

Any CovCath player point predictions for this game?

Not to me. I was picking my girl up in South Bend and bringing her home for spring break.

Mr. Radio:

Please don't stop letting emotions come through the mic. If I am listening to you, that means that I can not be at the game. I want you guys to convey the emotion of the crowd. That should come through in the broadcast.

As for celbrating, as long as it is respectful, those boys are supposed to show that 'Spirit that will not die'. That is unless they've changed the motto already??

My hope for this game is that CovCath can gain back the confidence they demonstrated in some of their past big games. If they can come out like that, they'll have a chance to celebrate again.

My emotion will be there, just not pounding the table. This game is going to be all about defense. Does Newport play the way they did against Ryle or NewCath, and can the Colonels 'D' keep this from being a track meet. This game has to be in low 50's or less.

My vote is for CCH if they can do the following: (1) Thelen and Wellbrock need to get the big guys from Newport in foul trouble early (2) Evans will be key - he has the ability to control the tempo against the quick Newport guards (3) CCH needs to dramatically reduce their turnovers and (4) CCH has to control the boards against the quicker more athletic Newport team.

If these things happen, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Colonels playing tomorrow.

20 hours until tipoff. At 27-5 Newport has the best record in Northern Kentucky. (Holmes is 24-5) Newport had losses 2 to Holmes, 2 to New. Cath. and 1 to DeSales (All A tourney). Cov. Cath. has some big wins over New. Cath., Ryle, Conner, Brossart, Glasgow. It should be fun to watch. How long has it been since Cov. Cath. and Newport played?

Jan. 26, 1999 @ CovCath

CovCath 79

Newport 40

Feb. 7, 1998 @ Newport

CovCath 55

Newport 53

1998 is the last season Newport advanced to the 9th Region Tournament where they lost in the 1st round @ Holmes to semifinalist Holmes 73-41.

I think Newport is out to prove a point. After playing well in the Ryle game, I think they are our to stun the entire state actually. Im not going to go as far as saying they will win the region, yet. But I think they have there way with CovCath. And will battle with Holmes in the finals.

CovCath is an awful shooting team. From the FT line and the 3pt line. This is perfect for a team like Newport who doesn't mind sitting in 3 types of zones and making a bad shooting team shoot. So unless CovCath is shooting into a swimming pool instead of a basket, I think Newport wins by double digits.

P.S. I think the heart and sole of this Newport team is Casey McDaniel. This kid is so underrated under the basket its not even funny.

Keep slapping!! The emotion is great. I am waiting for John Robinson to include some of the signature moves he uses on the rail at Cov. Cath. My personal favorites are the exaggerated extended arm "offer of the eyeglasses" to the referee, the "chicken-wing" contorted elbows out response to the over the back rebounding no-call, and the offer of condolence to the referees after a Colonels victory "don't blame yourself, you did all you could."  He is so much more subdued on the air. It must be all of the knees you give him under the broadcast table. :D
