Purplepride, Is the Boyle co/Danville rivalry as bad as the BG/ Warren Central rivalry when you lived here? Personally I've never seen anything like IT. This year we even have one brother playing for Bg and his brother who shares the same bedroom playing for Central. Talk about crazy!! Leads to some great student chants starting with our brother's better and then going downhill from there. I personally find these KHSAA eligibility rulings somewhat comical when yous see what goes on down here. I know one familly that has three children all of which attend different schools purely for academic reasons I'm sure:confused:

I lived in the same kind of subdivision twice during my high school years. It was a little more tame, but at the same time, you didn't want to get caught outnumbered in the wrong territory. I can always remember that there would always be at least one fight at BG/WC games. Fortunately, I haven't experienced that here.(knock on wood)

The Advocate Messenger really opened up a can of worms here, they tapped into the rivalry factor between the two schools. I heard from a reliable source that the Danville representatives in no uncertain terms expressed to the paper their displeasure as to the way they handled this story. I also noticed the newspaper pulled the story from the online version of the paper. I think everybody needs to take a deep breath and settle down, people are getting ridiculous in the comments section of the paper. This issue needs to be settled by the parties involved, The Dunns, KHSAA, Court, and who ever else is asked for facts from in this issue.

 

It's still there. The new day's stories have just cycled through, but it's still there.

Even without the smoking gun text the young man would not be eligible. I think there was a case from WKY back in the 70s where a kid whose parents were already separated (key point) moved from one to the other. I believe the case went to the KY Supreme Court which backed up the KHSAA.

 

Each case is fact specific...the key being whether the "change of residence" was legitimate or done primarily for athletic reasons. Kids from split families often move from one parent to the other as they get older and it has nothing to do with athletics. The KHSAA now gets to play God and decide what someone's true intentions were and possibly ruin a kid's senior year. Again I say, do away with all this nonsense of making families and kids "move" in order to fall within the exception to the rule and just amend the rule and let all kids transfer one time without any penalty. Now if the receiving school was found to have "recruited" the kid then punish the school...not the kid.

Bylaw 6 of the KHSAA handbook does allow a student-athlete to transfer schools without sitting out a year if there is a change of residence, a divorce or change of custody among other exceptions. It does not allow a transfer strictly for athletic purposes.

 

 

Boyle’s filings to the KHSAA state Dunn went from living with his mother, Regina Kavanaugh, who lives in the Danville school district, to living with his father Wilber Dunn, who lives in Boyle’s district. Even though the couple were never married, Dunn’s transfer still falls under the divorced parents exception.

 

 

He met criteria to transfer, the text, and the persistence from the Danville camp is what led the KHSAA to over rule the transfer labeling for athletics only.

I think this case will end up being won in the appeal.

Florida and California...maybe Kentucky will relax its transfer rules in 20 years. That's why Twain wanted to be in Kentucky when the end of the world comes-- everything happens 20 years later here.

Just because there is a divorced parents rule doesn't mean he falls under it. It seems he used the rule so he could go to another school.
