Who is the most overrated team this year

Featured Replies

I don't think Syracuse is overrated at all. Cuse is tough this year. They overlooked UL, it's not hard to do.

I think Syracuse is very good and deserved their #3 ranking.

Syracuse and UK have been the two most impressive teams I've watched this season. The Big East is brutal. Making through that conference with one, or even two losses, is not likely. I'll be surprised if the 'Cuse doesn't lose again.

Also think Duke in this category most of the time them and NC don't even have to leave state to make it to the Final 4

You are incorrect. Don't let your hatred hinder common sense.

Texas and Duke. I don't think either team is that good.

Duke is a a good team....they can certainly beat anyone, they just aren't elite. I believe there are only three elite teams.

I'm talking as of today. I thought all year that Cuse has been. But I also thought that Texas was going to be one of the team's to beat. As of today what team in the top eight you think gets upset in the tourny first. Using the top 8 teams on espn top 25.

I agree with you. But, some of those second-tier teams, including Duke are capable of beating anyone in a one-game scenario.

Without looking at tourney matchups, I have to go with Kansas State, then Purdue, then Duke, then West Virginia.

Me too!

I would not put Syracuse on any overrated list. Very dangerous NCAA tournament team. The Orange have the ingredients to win it all, in my opinion.

I like Jim Boeheim's team this year.

IMO its Syracuse just like Louisville last year. They played 14 of their first 16 at home with 2 being on a neutral floor. I think they lose 4 of the next 5 and i don't think they get past the sweet 16 round. IMO

You think UofL, who went 16-2 in the Big East last year, was overrated? They won the regular season and conference championship in a conference that produced 3 one seeds.

Sounds like your logic is UofL and whoever they beat is overrated.

Who would you "rate" higher than the Syracuse that is behind them? I have to disagree, I don't see them losing 4 of 5. They may lose 2 more games all season. They are 24-2 and have played the 10th toughest schedule in the country. That's far from overrated IMO.

The most overrated team this season was UNC.

I like them a lot as well, but worry a little about how Triche will hold up at PG in the tournament. He's had a very solid rookie campaign, but the tournament is dictated by guard play and I think his inexperience might be a factor. If Johnson can get his wrist back to 100% they will be a very tough out...

How does one measure if a team is overrated?

Here is the way I see it. Every team practices to get better. So that is why we play the games.

There are to many things that factor into teams winning and losing.

If you are measuring team as overrated based on losing to a lower ranked team then every team out there is Overrated.

That's deep.

I would say Mich St. could be put into this category. They have been beat by a couple of the teams mentioned as over rated in this thread (UNC and Texas), an underachieving Florida team, and the top 3 teams in their conference (Wisconsin, Illinois, and Purdue(Purdue at home)).

They have yet to beat anyone relevant on the road or at a neutral site yet they have been ranked in the top 12 all year. I am a big Tom Izzo fan and usually love his teams, but it seems that they usually succeed when expectations aren't very high (besides the 2000 championship). I don't see them getting out of the first weekend of the tournament.

I think that WVU, Kansas St. and Duke are not making the Sweet 16. I don't like these teams come March. Kansas St. didn't have a high profile to start the year, so I think that WVU and Duke are the most over-rated.

If I were looking at this from a neutral perspective, I could see an argument made for UK being over-rated as well.

Teams with biggest spread between ranking and RPI:

21 Ohio St. (Ranked 9, RPI 30)

15 Michigan St. (Ranked 11, RPI 26)

13 Texas (Ranked 15, RPI 28)

Underrated? Go down the list in the Atlantic 10 ... Temple (RPI 12), Xavier (RPI 21), Rhode Island (RPI 23), Richmond (RPI 27), Dayton (RPI 31). Even Charlotte is in the top 50 of the RPI at #41. The A 10 is going to put a lot of teams in the tourney this year.

Texas and Duke. I don't think either team is that good.

I agree and throw in Nova.
