Records matter, and I would very much like to see HHS have 12 more wins listed on their W-L record if it turns out the KHSAA sanctions were unwarranted. Also, if I was a player on that team (or the parent of a player) it would really irritate me to have the 2004 season be recorded as a 2-13 season if I felt the forfeits were unwarranted. If they believe the sanctions were unwarranted, then the school system owes it to those kids (who worked their tails off that season to go 14-1 on the field) to challenge the ruling, even if it upsets the KHSAA.

There were many people who exhaled after the 2004 season and said, okay at least someone noticed. Highlands is always going to be at or near the top each year but the KHSAA at least attempted to recognize that there were "improper" activities taking place in Ft. Thomas. Here is a question I would pose to the Bluebirds fans - was it worth it? If you had it to do over, would you play Mitchell? I guess more importantly, would Coach Mueller and the administration at Highlands play Mitchell? How would you handle a similar situation if it came up today?

 

It is a shame that this player and his participation in one season of football at Highlands has tainted the resume of perhaps the greatest football program in Kentucky.

He was not going to play at Cov Cath his senior year. I say that if he was to sit out his senior year he would not have recieved a scholarship. His only d-1 scholly was to Ohio U. There are rules that make it so people don't transfer. Too bad for Cov Cath that he was within those rules.

Absolutely hilarious. The only people that will hang onto this and use this as a throwing stone is the Haters. I dont think anybody associated with this in Ft Thomas loses much sleep over this or worries what the rest of the State thinks of Highlands concerning this soap opera. I would definately do it exactly the same way. Highlands did everything they were allowed to do. Played him when he was allowed and sat him when he wasn't. I think it would have been awful if the school had sat him the entire season only to later have the courts rule that he was eligable. That would have been tough for me to live with.

 

I don't consider Highlands resume tainted because of this situation at all. There is way too much history at Highlands that far overshadows this one incident.

HHS fans in all honestly, what was the true reason for the transfer or at least in your opinion?

 

1) To increase his chances to play college football?

2) CovCath was too hard academically and he was having too much trouble academically to graduate?

3) His Mother illness/injury?

 

 

You might ask why most non HHS fans think that football was the only reason and then again you just might not care, but it's because they (the Mitchel's) never at anytime tried to sell their home, during that time span, that most feel it was not a true move!

 

I think most people think of a move as trying to sell their home or moving completely out of one's apt (if you don't own a house) before moving into another apt! What they did was move from their home to an apt, while their son lived at the home without it ever going up for sale!

 

Seems if you have the money to afford to pay a mortgage and pay rent, or someone is helping you do it, the courts are calling it a litigate move, but most aren't buying it, unless you are from HHS.

Well, if the Bell County school district feels they were treated unfairly, then perhaps they owe it to the Bell County players from that season to challenge the KHSAA decision to allow HHS to claim the state title that year.

 

My point from my original post is simple: if a school (any school, Highlands, Bell County, etc.) feels that it was treated unfairly by the KHSAA, then I believe that school owes it to their kids to challenge the KHSAA's ruling. Clearly (from the letter), Highlands feels that the KHSAA's ruling was unwarranted, and so they are challenging the ruling.

There have been a few posts alluding to academic problems. Lets be clear here and I say this in defense of Mike and his family. While he wasn't on the honor roll he was a solid student. I don't want someone who is reading from afar to think this is one of those "dumb jock" situations. Like a lot of kids, Mike was an average student and I say that in the literal sense.
