"Come back?????" Were they down, 2-0????? :ohbrother:

Players typically reflect their coach, consciously or not... :irked:

They were talking about coming back from the beating that Marion gave them.

Thanks for the clarification; I didn't see the question...

Doesn't make the comments any better, though...

Etown coach should be fired. What did this prove? The word clown comes to mind.

E-Town player comments: Caution hold your stomach! :puke:

"It boosted my confidence a lot. It was good to come back like that."

"We were mad from the 31 point loss to marion and Ft. Knox just had to take the heat for it."

"We wanted to win big and we did."

E-TOWN SCORING

1st-38

2nd-38

3rd-32

4th-31

It boosted her confidence....how low was her confidence before this????? How does doing that to a team boost your confidence. If they had any conscience whatsoever they would be embarrassed and ashamed.

My favorite comment from the story..."We were mad from the 31 point loss to marion and Ft. Knox just had to take the heat for it." Why does a team that obviously is lacking and an easy win for E-town have to "take the heat" for their previous loss??

Toatl lack of class by the coach and the players as well.

If I was a parent of one of these kids, I would be ashamed. I think it's true the players reflect the coach to an extent.

I do know a coach who went into a similar game as the dominate team and told the players that "we were going to not humiliate this team so we will use the bench and slow the play down once we have a comfortable lead. Now that coach has some class. That would have been the thing to do here, if you ask me.

It's funny, and I don't know Tim Mudd so this isn't so much a personal comment about him, but I do know a couple of coaches who have put on a pretty good front and make everyone think they are such a good person when in fact they will do some pretty low things when they think know one is watching and in this case, and imo, this one was done while everyone was watching.

I agree the coach should have had the e-town girls hold the ball. There is no excuse for what was done here. How sad.

As far as the 10th , it just depends on what team you are as to how brutal public opinion would be. I can reference on this site the wins with big margins of victory, and how inconsistant public opinion can be about those wins.

It boils down to who is scoring the lions share of the points. Blowouts happen but you can minimize them by slowing things down. The 1st quarter 29-0 score , the starters don't see another minute, slow the game down to half court offense and defense. pass the ball around work on set plays. E-Town took 71 shots I beleive Thats 1every 30 seconds.

Not sure what are you referencing in my previous post but I agree 100% that the game should have been slowed down.

As far as the 10th region, I have seen a team (and coach) that has won by 30 points even after playing the subs in and out for most of the game (even when the lead was not that large, maybe only 20 points) crucified on this site the next day when a team that has won by 50 (and left starters in until the last few minutes) not criticized at all. So I'm just saying in the 10th it depends on what school you are as to how public opinion sways.

As far as this blowout, what can anyone say? There is really no excuse?

I was just stating that blowouts happen, and sometimes can't be avoided. However you can minimize them by not putting in starters at all after a 29-0 1st quarter. While the backups are in just slow it down. I don't beleive

you should quit playing. Your backups deserve to be properly tutored on in game situations. Work on set half court plays. On defense work on the zone. If you steal the ball don't push it up the court. walk it up and get into your half court offense.

I don't beleive you should tell these girls to just pass it around and not shoot. That can be as demoralizing o your opponent as running up the score. Just use your subs and slow it down..

Minutes played for Elizabethtown starters: 19:01, 25:31, 18:28, !9:40, and !7:18. Ten players dressed for the game.

So the starters played 70% of the total available minutes. Does that make the coach only a 70% nimbrod.

Why only 10? Do they not have more girls in their program? Use a game like this to reward your younger players for their hard work. You will still get the W and the young players will feel that their hard work is recognized and rewarded. In my experience, the older players will even enjoy watching the younger ones do well. If you have to play freshmen to match up more closely the talent levels, then play freshmen. To me, this is totally inappropriate and demeaning for a coach to do to an opponent. Do we not teach our younger generation a thing or two about sportsmanship anymore? What does this teach the players on the winning team? That it is ok to do anything you want to anyone, and do not care about how they feel from your actions?

Yes I do understand that there is always a winner and a loser in sports, but I firmly believe in the win with class and lose with class. Just seems like anymore there are fewer and fewer people who see a need to win with class. If I had a daughter playing on either team in this game, I honestly do not know what I would do. I applaud any parent who was at the game and had the strength to not do anything foolish nor cause embarassment for their daughter. I remember being embarassed a time or two from the actions of my father at a game, and this is one where I could see parents reacting in such a way as to cause embarassment for their daughter.

One other question I had was - were the AD or any other school administration at the game? If they were, I would lose almost as much respect I had for them if they sat on their hands and did not say anything to their coach for what he allowed/encouraged to happen.

Sickening.......what a wonderful show of leadership by the E-town coach. Glad my daughter is NOT playing for him. :puke:

As I have learned in the past, what goes around, comes around.

Their team picture only shows 10 players on the team wedsite.

According to IHIGH.com, it shows 11 girls on the varsity roster, and the list of coaches includes a Freshman Head Coach. As there are only two freshmen (or younger) players on the varsity roster, that tends to make me think that there are a lot more players in the Etown girls' basketball program than just 10...
