For what it's worth, Fort Knox has been really down this year in all girls' sports, and they already weren't very good (albeit somewhat competitive in volleyball last year and the year before) to begin with. It's kind of the same things that led to Fort Knox's struggles in football and the long losing streak. If you look at the Eagles' overall results, they were getting blown out by middle-of-the-road teams and losing to bad teams.

 

E'town is a top-10 team coming off a blowout loss to Marion County (MC and E'town are faves for the region championship), so I can understand a little bit of this, in that light of lingering anger and frustration. It's a district game, so it had to be played. It could have been anyone else; just bad timing for the Eagles and probably not personal.

 

From my dealings with E'town coach Tim Mudd in the past, he's always been a first-class, stand-up guy. There were no comments from him or the players for the story -- I don't think the News-Enterprise had anyone actually there -- so I'll at least withhold judgment until I hear his explanation. He generally doesn't make a habit of going overboard like this.

If accurate I feel sad for both teams.

There really can't be another explaination other than lack of class. This coach kept his starters in the game long enough to score 97 pts, 80% of the total. Even if his team had an ax to grind it wasn't with Fort Knox. Take it out on Marion Co the next time you play them. He appears to be just a typical bully can"t whip the tougher kids on the block so I'll make myself look tough by beating up someone that can't defend themselves.

Congrats to all the girls who put up huge stats on a helpless opponent. Nothing against the girls. I blame the coach. I just hope the girls realize the big numbers were not that impressive considering the circumstances.

The coach should have pulled his starters after the 1st quarter and really taught his player a lesson in sportsmanship. I would assume he was a very average athlete in high school and is trying to compensate from other inadequesies he may have:banana: physically.

If I am correct, that community (Ft. Knox) has been going through a good number of transient students due to the restructure of the base. If that is the case, E-Town did this against a team and group of ladies that haven't even established a program yet. :irked:

 

I know that SK was on their way to a 100 earlier this season and Stowers pulled the plug on the varsity team 2 min. into the 3rd.

The final score has absolutely nothing to do with the talent of Fort Knox, rather the lack of class of Etown. I don't understand how anyone can even begin to defend this coach and his actions. I have already sent an email to the school administration and I encourge everyone who is outraged to contact them as well. I believe a the officials reads a sportsmanship statement to the players prior to the game, maybe the coach should be made to listen to the speech as well.:scared::madman::idunno::deadhorse::irked:

I'd really, really like to think that this is the case, but after following HS basketball for over 3 decades now, I'm struggling to come up with even one... Sometimes a "perfect storm" happens...and you can't tell the subs not to play the game...but frankly, it doesn't appear that this guy pulled the plug. What about JV players??? Knowing they had already proven that the Ft Knox team was overmatched against them, wouldn't this have been a time the coach could have had several JV players on hand? Let them play the second half... It doesn't sound as if any JV or Freshman players saw the court (although the newspaper account wasn't real clear in that regard)

 

Like you, EB, I hope the untold story here is that the subs played most of the game and that they had just one of those incredible nights. That FK contributed to their own demise through tons of turnovers, quick missed shots, etc.

 

North Oldham won big in a boys' varsity game on Friday (91-39), but North had gone 10 deep by the end of the first period, had called off the press by halftime, played their top 2 scorers less than 2 periods, put the game completely in the hands of the subs early in the 3rd, and had only JV players in the game for the entire fourth period. (The JVs, however, shot 75% in the fourth period and outscored the opponent's varsity, 23-9!). 16 Mustangs played and 13 scored...the leading Mustang scorer, who scored 18 points, was a freshman. It was just "one of those games" - the Mustangs hit 63.3% from the field - but the North coach did everything possible (short of going to a "stall") to preserve the integrity of the game, while making a lot of moves that kept it from being something like this. The way things were going for North that night, he could have easily won by 100 and humiliated their opponent, but he didn't - while I'm sure it was no fun to lose by 52, I'm also certain the opposing coach would tell you that his actions showed class and respect for the other team.

 

I'm quite sure Etown has JV and freshman players who would have loved to see action in this game. Did they?? (I don't know) Like the rest of you, I'd like to know more from someone who was perhaps at the game - especially from thos rooting for Fort Knox. What was the perception from the losing side?

I probably shouldn't comment on this game until the details are posted. With that said, how does a team score that many points without intending to embarrass the opponent??

Exactly my point. Those starters didn't score 97 points in 16-20 minutes...they had to be in there for a long, long time.

Feel terrible for Fort Knox, coaches and players. I don't care what kind of explanation or excuse E-town may have for this, because there is NO excuse for this lack of class. This makes me wanna :puke:
