Elizabethtown 128 Fort Knox 13

Featured Replies

Of course we all know enough about the competition before the game. If I'm not mistaken Fort Knox is in the same district as E-town. By this time of year every coach around knows everything there is to know about district opponents. Heck he probably knows what flavor of gatorade the other team's PG drinks during time outs.

He should have been more prepared with more girls on the bench, but again I'm just spit balling here......Did E-town have a freshman girls game that night?? Maybe there was a reason they only dressed 10?

I've asked around a little bit on this, and found out that E'town in all sports apparently has an unwritten rule that JV and freshman kids won't be brought up to the varsity squad unless they are going to be regular contributors. By "regular contributors," that means they won't bring an eighth-grader up for just a one-game shot — which is what this would have been, considering E'town pretty much plays the best in the state night-in and night-out. The TK Stone Middle School team probably beats Ft. Knox's varsity, and probably by double-digits.

Another consideration is that this was a district game, and Fort Knox has apparently decided that playing those district games (in a traditionally very strong district) and suffering the brutal beatings made more sense than just taking the No. 5 seed and instead lining up some games against comparable opponents. Ft. Knox's girls coach is also its athletic director. Maybe E'town was trying to send the message that Ft. Knox should consider opting out of regular season district play for the future.

I may be wrong, but if the teams do not play a seeded game, they would both lose a regular season game. Can anyone confirm this?

Has anyone been contacted back by E-TOWN after sending e-mail to the school / district / coach / AD? I know they have not been answering back fellow educators on the issue.

I'm pretty sure this isn't the case. If you opt out, the regular-season game never actually gets scheduled, and no forfeits are issued.

While I don't necessarily disagree with you, whose is it?

I added a "return-after-read" to my email and it wasn't even opened.

They dont lose the game, they would just take the lowest seed in the district for the tournament. Silver Grove did this for a couple of years when they first brought back the program. They opted to not play the other 4 teams in the district and took the 5th seed in the tournament. It gave them a chance to schedule some teams that would be more comparable to their team.

If they did that then they violated the KHSAA by-laws. If a team in seeded district chooses not to play they DO go down as forfeits and they are NOT allowed to schedule extra games. The other teams that they refuse to play in the district however ARE allowed to schedule extra games.
