The two sides of Darius Miller

Featured Replies

Interesting little note from KSR about the Darius Miller the players see in practice, and the Darius Miller that we usually see during games.

Interesting comment that hasn't gotten a lot of play from the last game. Calipari said that there are certain players that make a play in practice and he stops practice as the team yells, “do it in the game!” to reinforce confidence issues. When Demarcus Cousins was asked about it later, he mentioned Darius Miller as a common recipient saying, “Darius can really play. Peple wouldnt believe what he does in practice.” I hope he soon will “do it in the game.”

I really think Darius Miller just lacks the confidence. I mean, you can totally see it in his play and every time he shoots the ball. He just doesn't look that confident out there anymore, compared to a few games earlier in the season.

If I was Darius Miller, I would love my role on this team. Be wide open, pretty much all the time because the defensive focus is pretty much only on the big man inside, or the steller point guard All you have to do is step into your short and knock it down when they kick the ball off the double team. Not much is expected from you, so just be confident in shooting the ball.

As much as I would like to think I was a good high school player, that was pretty much my role, my senior year.

I heard Calipari saying the same stuff on the pre-game talk before the Ole Miss game. He said that he'd stop practice sometimes after Miller made a great play and the whole team would tell him to "Do it in the games!".

Josh Carrier ring any bells anybody?

But with Miller, I can see that potential and have no problem believing the reports that he dominates in practice. With Carrier, I never saw anything in a game that would ever remotely think he had the ability to take over a game.

I wish he would stop spotting up 3's and take it to the rim. He misses his 3 and confidence sinks. Let Dodson shoot 3's and take it to the rim Darius.

True. After Miller hits a shot going to the basket, he can shoot from all over. Including the 3.

I think Miller has all kinds of potential. It's his confidence and mentality that slow him down IMO. He's just never seemed aggressive or assertive. I remember watching and playing against him in High School and thinking that he could be unstoppable if he wanted to be.

I agree. He just needs to be more confident in the game. The potential is obvious. Everyone knows it. Step it up Darius!

Darius has worlds of talent, but, I think the issue is confidence.

I believe that he does well in practice but I'm not convinced he has the talent like most people let on. If he cant do it in the games then that so called talent is useless. I've seen these types of kids at even the high school level. The types that cant carry over performance from the practice court/field to a game setting. It seems to be an unbreakable barrier. Miller is still a sophomore and has time to work on this but if he isnt showing improvment toward the end of this year, I'm afraid that the next two years could be much of the same and the recruiting isnt going to get any less; he will struggle to find significant minutes.

I remember vividly that Calipari raved about him above all others when he first started working with the team after getting the job. I think the ability is absolutely there. You see flashes of it. Darius just needs to believe in himself and he will be fine. Either you have the ability to do it or you don't. He has the ability, ... just needs to have the confidence to 'just do it'.

I can buy that. I think he is timid due to all the talent around him.

I guess last year, he was timid because he was a Freshman. I can't wait to hear the excuses for him next year.
