HHS is a VERY strong program period. You are correct in saying that they probably would struggle with some of the top teams in the largest classes of these schools, but I seriously doubt there are that many teams with the enrollment of HHS that could play with them, let alone beat them regularly in ANY state...A little reminder, once again, HHS plays UP in classification by not one, but TWO classes. Until HS teams play one another, there is no possible way you, or anybody else can tell who has a better team, let alone the better overall program. To say they would stand no chance is a fallacy also. Rarely has HHS been embarrassed when playing larger teams on the biggest stages. They will play more games against some great teams in the future, in sure, and will prove they are worthy of the attention they are getting.

Highlands if a very strong program in the State of Kentucky. Excellent coaching and tradition. However, they are no where near a top 25 program in the country. I've been fortunate to see programs in Texas, California, Florida and Georgia. Trinity, St. X and Highlands would stand no chance against the best teams in these states!

There is this thing its called an opinion and you need to preface your comment above with IMO. Obviously many others including all the people that get paid to do the rating feel differently.

You may be right and to be frank, I used to think the same way that you did. But after watching the Ohio schools beat and compete with supposedly the best high school football teams in the country (in the Herbsteit), I've come to the conclusion that the big Ohio schools are as good as the best football teams in the country. If that is so, then our win over Cincy X leads me to believe that Highlands could play with the best teams in Ohio. Elder was 1-1 against Cincy X and made it to the third round of the playoffs, losing a very close game to the Ohio Champs (Hilliard Davidson). Which leads me to conclude that Elder is pretty close to Hilliard Davidson in quality. Cincy X, a team that Highlands dominated in the match up, barely lost to Elder in the second round. Once could reasonably conclude that Cincy X was almost as good as the Ohio State champion and thus that Highlands was as good as the Ohio state champion. I realize it's all speculation by me based on comparing scores, but then again, it's speculation as good as those speculating that Highlands isn't near as good as the programs you mention. You may be falling in the trap that I used to be in; that Ky football programs just can't be as good as those programs that get all the ink and have all the D-1 players. But we've all seen teams with less D-1 talent beat teams with a lot of D-1 talent. Just in 07, Highlands beat Trotwood Madison (an Ohio team) that was loaded with D-1 talent. I think they had 4 or 5 (maybe more) of their players on that team get D-1 scholarships. D-1 scholarships are based more on college potential than high school performance, so the fact that a team may have a lot of D-1 talent does not mean the team is necessarily great, an idea often lost on people ranking high school teams. Personally in a one game series, I think this year's Highlands team could hang with any team in the country.

I think AC's Dad sitting next to Phi Sims in the Cin St. X game that was seen on national TV just might have a hand in some of this hype and if you don't think that CC doesn't hype HHS in New York, California etc, you are crazy.

Well, Your opinion as mine has nothing to do with where HHS will land in the USA Today's poll. From what I have seen in these polls is they seem to be predicated on a body of work. Most of the teams are usually ones that have had a string of success, like a 44-1 record over a 3 year period. They sort of build to it. And then throw in a win over another nationally ranked team will catapult a team into a higher ranking. As far as saying 06 was a down season, well 7-5 at Highlands is a down season. Kind of hard to argue that any other way. The only way your argument has any merit is if someone would have actually BEAT the Birds, which in Ky hasn't happened in over three years now. I would think you and the Blue Colonels would take solace in this ranking. You can now at least say, "hey, at least it was the # 2 team in the nation handing us our hats for the last 3 years and not your average run of mill 5A opponent.:lol:
