These are just a few off the top of my head. HHS has a wonderful program. I have coached against those guys a few times and know them personally, and they are classy guys. Like I said no disrespect intended, but. I make this same arguement about Maryville, TN. They are always ranked high, but never play the other top 25 teams. I want to see them and Highlands come down south. Bosco flew to Prattville this year and Byrnes and St. Thomas played. So if you want to be the man, beat the man.

 

They did they beat Cincy ST.X when they were ranked in the top 15 in the country. Didn't Bosco get crushed a couple years ago in the Herbie..Your argument doesn't hold water.

I bet you their coach has some respect for Highlands. When he coached at LexCath, he knew the road to the state championship went through FT Thomas. Bob Sphire is one classy coach!!!! Bob would be the 1st one to tell you that the class of Commonwealth is Highlands Football.

I agree. He may be humble on the air, but I'd be very shocked if he isn't touting how great Highlands is off the air. I talk about how great Boyle County is all of the time at work. It's only natural. Plus, they also have to get the Highlands videos from somewhere.

I would be great, if just for one week. If Highlands does go to 2, that means Katy and Abilene will probably be 3 and 4. I wouldn't be surprised if the winner of the Abilene/Katy game, next week in the Texas 5A-II Championship, jumps Highlands and they finish at #3. Still fantastic.

I am all for HHS getting recognized. I have been one of the biggest promoters on BGP that HHS 2009 is the best HHS team ever. But I agree with this highlighted comment above and have some disbelief that HHS is truly #1 or deserving of #1. I think HHS needs to step up and play some of the big boys to truly earn this - and one game against a GCL team is not enough. Maybe this ranking will help make that happen. Maybe it will cause some of these top teams to consider playing HHS. I think to be #1 in the nation you should have wins over 2 or 3 other top national level programs. HHS has one that is borderline as to the quality of it considering how St. X finished. Time for HHS to drop game 2 against Ryle and another non district game. Step up to play a couple of national powers (or at least Trinity and/or Lou. St. X.) and prove on the field what we all can currently just speculate about. Best wishes on the highest ranking possible and leveraging that into a schedule that will prove it is accurate.

Doubt it. I think what everyone is missing on here is this isnt just because of the last three or four yrs. Yes, it is very impressive and it does help. But the more important factor when these voters look at these teams is Tradition and consistency. Again, this National Championship would be the feather in the Birds cap (no pun intented) for a Tradition Rich Dominancy that has been going on for a very, very long time that alot of very good teams before these teams have helped built. Longer than USA and the rest have been around would be my guess. Highlands, I believe has the most wins ever by a High School Football progam not in KY. But the USA. Dont want to hear about the TX, FL and CA teams. This is Highlands day and they deserve everything that have earned. Oh yeah, 19 State Championships sort of stick out like a sore thumb when folks around the country look at the program as well. But if ripping Highlands is what makes all those Haters on here feel good then go for it. Highlands is used to it. 20n10. :thumb:

Well, you have misapplied the logic.

 

Cris Collinsworth doesn't have much pull for Kentucky football. But, he is a nationally recognized name and face. That helps in the national polls, not in the Kentucky voting.

 

When the voters are compiling their list of 25+ teams that they think deserve consideration for the top 25, I'd imagine that they hit a wall after about 15. So, they begin to look around & take other's input. Enter Mr. Collinsworth.

 

When HHS gets placed in the top 25 and they continue to win, they continue to rise up the charts.

One of the first things I pointed out was that this ranking was more of a testament to the PROGRAM than this season's team.
