Too many jealous haters out there to really appreciate an accomplishment like this. Does a #2 ranking mean that Highlands is the 2nd best team in the country? No. Does it mean that Highlands took care of their schedule and the other teams ranked higher than them in the poll did not? Yes.

I agree. I feel the same way, but at the same time.....polls are argued about all of the time regardless of the sport or the level. I think that while the Highlands posters have every right to take the good of being ranked number 2 that they should also take and understand where other people where coming from.

 

If St. Xavier(Lou) was number 2, wouldn't most Highlands posters be saying that they shouldn't be number 2 because Highlands did what the Louisville schools couldn't do....beat Cincy St. X.

 

Again, I am happy to see any KY school be ranked that high nationally, but I think it is naive to think the entire state would be happy for Highlands. I have only seen people saying that they doubt the credibility of the ranking, which is understandable, but nowhere have I seen anyone say they aren't deserving of a ranking or nationwide respect.

 

Highlands is definitely worthy of all the accolades they receive.

This post is right on target.

 

Honest debate on a subjective opinion (USA Today's) should not be considered hating. And it is a subjective title. Just look at the various well respected national polls with the wide range of rankings for teams and you will see how subjective all this is. So anyone who comes on here and wonders how good HHS truly is should not be labeled a hater. That is what BGP is all about - letting sports fans discuss and debate and share opinions.

 

I want HHS to be #1 when this is all said and done. That would be totally awesome for Kentucky football. And selfishly for my favorite team, any team that can beat HHS next year would get to say they beat the defending national champs. How fun would that be!

At the end of the day, who cares what anyone's opinion is of HHS ranking. The kids, and I have one, are eating it up and they deserve to live it. Remember, ain't none of ya'll out there playing the game, it's the kids, and it's THEIR national ranking, not any of the adults. Let them have it, wherever it comes from. I can tell you this, they are not sitting around chest thumping, they are in the weight room and running in the gym...already. Love it or hate it, the rankings are what they are. There is not one team, in the entire country that would not take the title of "National Champions" if they were so named by USA TODAY. NOT ONE! It's a huge accomplishment and the most widely recognized ranking system, albeit not a perfect one by any means. Coming in 2nd in the nation would be a huge accomplishment for any HS team in any year. We, as Kentuckians and HS football fans, should just say Congrats and move on. Let the hardworking young men of HHS enjoy something that is exciting and fun and live with it. It is certainly fun to talk about a KY team finnishing in the top 2-3 teams in all of HS football....Go BIRDS!....20n10!

I am a Belfry Pirate thru and thru and always will love my Pirates above all else. But today when I saw Highlands representing KY on a National level, I have to say "luv them Bluebirds!!!"

I just checked USA Today and they still have last week's ratings up. The new ratings are supposed to be out today. I don't think Highlands can get to #1 because Don Bosco was ahead of them and their season is also over. The best the Birds can hope for is probably #2.

Maybe they'll look at Don Bosco's loss last year to Cincy X and give Highlands the nod...never know.
