Sweep, Oldguy is generally very diplomatic in his postings toward HHS if I'm not mistaken, but in appears as though he is drinking the water from HHS hate well on this one. Again, I think people are crazy if they really believe CC is going around hyping HHS as the best team in the Country...Like he doesn't have anything better to do or has all the time in the world to do so. AC and HHS have earned some National attention through hard work and preparation. To begrudge them something earned on the field seems a bit petty. I hope Covcath goes on to get some State and National attention soon as it's getting a bit lopsided beating them over and over, 2006 not withstanding of course!

 

If you think a Dad doesn't brag about his kid or tells his co-workers about how the game went, you haven't been around many Dads whose kids play sports and that is any Dad for any team, anywhere.

 

Do you honestly think none of CC co-workers didn't ask how HHS did each week and CC didn't say a word about it?

 

There is not a Father out there that doesn't sing the praises of his son/daughter when the occasion arises and well they should.

 

It not CC or AC fault that CC co-workers are major media types and yes it helps HHS and if you don't think so then you are only kidding yourself!

 

As I said twice now, HHS is very, very, very good, but #2 good? IMO no!

And that's the spirit in which this whole thing should be taken. That ranking isn't based on the opinions of the Highlands fans; so its accuracy or fallacy shouldn't be thrown in our face. I think it's cool that ANY Kentucky team is on that list.

It would matter VERY much to the HHS players and coaches that could Add "NATIONAL CHAMPIONS" to their rings that already say "15-0" and "5A STATE CHAMPS". Who wouldn't want that instead of some old cheap looking Jostens class ring!:ylsuper:

I don't have a problem with it at all. Enjoy it while it lasts. I consider it beneficial to Kentucky and particularly to Northern Kentucky. I get sick of the 3 new HHS threads a day, but that's why I don't venture into the football forum as frequently during the offseason. It's mostly speculation and gloating. With that said, it's easy to understand why there is so much excitement surrounding the program and I respect that.

 

Do I think they're the 2nd most talented team in the nation? No. But, as someone chimed in earlier, these rankings are based on multiple seasons. You don't get nationally ranked by going 13-0, so it's a testament to the PROGRAM as a whole, particularly the last 3 - 4 years.

 

Do I think Cris Collinsworth's notoriety has had a positive effect on the program and its national exposure? Absolutely. I'm not suggesting that CC is out and about lobbying for votes, but there's no doubt in my mind that his publicity, combined with his son's play, has shed some extra exposure on HHS. Once again, this is a positive thing and how a lot of these national polls work.

 

Since it's impractical to set up a national HS playoff, we rely on these national polls. I'd guess that many of the voters haven't seen most of the teams play in person - in many instances, they may not have seen them AT ALL. As a result, you tend to rely on people who you know & trust. That's where Cris Collinsworth's influence kicks in. It's a testament to Highlands & the community, and should be taken as such.

I agree. He may be humble on the air, but I'd be very shocked if he isn't touting how great Highlands is off the air. I talk about how great Boyle County is all of the time at work. It's only natural. Plus, they also have to get the Highlands videos from somewhere.

HHS has a tremendous program, but no way are they number 2 in the US. I will not take the time to name 25 teams, but here are a few.

 

South Panola (MS)

Camden County(GA)

Hoover (AL)

Prattville (AL)

John T. Curtis ( LA)

South Lake Carroll (TX)

Byrnes (SC)

Dorman (SC)

Lowndes County (GA)

Northside Warner Robbins (GA)

St. Thomas Aquinas (FL)

Don Bosco Prep (NJ)

Jenks (OK)

Tulsa Union (OK)

 

These are just a few off the top of my head. HHS has a wonderful program. I have coached against those guys a few times and know them personally, and they are classy guys. Like I said no disrespect intended, but. I make this same arguement about Maryville, TN. They are always ranked high, but never play the other top 25 teams. I want to see them and Highlands come down south. Bosco flew to Prattville this year and Byrnes and St. Thomas played. So if you want to be the man, beat the man.

I have a question: why is it that you believe you know so much more about high school football than the people at USA Today, ESPN, Rivals and MaxPreps who get paid to keep track of these things???

 

Why is it that you can name 10-20 schools in three states who could beat Highlands, and yet the guys at USA Today can't seem to come up with five in 50 states??? That's odd...

 

To be fair these are the same people that ranked Cincy X #3 in the country earlier this year.

The argument year in and year out could be made if the #1 team and #2 team were better than the rest. So does anybody think Don Bosco is better than say 5-10 teams out there. They are probably not and who cares! Why not let Highlands, the 5th or 6th most successful programs in the entire country have their day in the sun. Where does Highlands stand on all time W's. Yeah that's what I thought!
