Well, you have misapplied the logic.

 

Cris Collinsworth doesn't have much pull for Kentucky football. But, he is a nationally recognized name and face. That helps in the national polls, not in the Kentucky voting.

 

When the voters are compiling their list of 25+ teams that they think deserve consideration for the top 25, I'd imagine that they hit a wall after about 15. So, they begin to look around & take other's input. Enter Mr. Collinsworth.

 

When HHS gets placed in the top 25 and they continue to win, they continue to rise up the charts.

 

You are absolutely right on with this one Crazy. Why in the world would KY voters, sports writers, etc listen to CC or make an attempt to work with such a great guy. First of all that is not Cris style to try and influence one for a vote or recogonition. More importantly why would KY want to embrace CC and consider him one of their own and work with him to try and move KY football as a whole to a National level. Probably the same reason they dont consider Highlands one of their own. Its a very old football system that needs some major overhauling and updating, of course thats just my opinion.:thumb: 20n10

I have always wondered about KY teams matched up against the teams from California, Texas, and Florida.

I can only speak for Florida and I've been wanting this for years. Can't get Florida teams to come to Kentucky and no team from Kentucky will come here. I've seen a couple Highlands games in the last few years and a lot of Florida high school football. Here's my take. Consider it how ever you like.

 

Highland's advantage is speed. Florida football is all about speed.

 

I don't think the Highlands team I saw in 2007 would fair well against the likes of 3A Pensacola or Jefferson, but the Highlands I saw last year, I believe, could play right with defending 4A Champion Plant in 08. (Aaron Murray and Orson Charles, both Georgia Bulldogs now, were on that team.)

 

I didn't get a chance to see Highlands play in 09, but I know how good Countryside was and know what Plant, moving up a class this year, did to them in the 5A playoffs. And while Manatee was upsetting #1 STA, last night, Plant was shutting out #16 Lakeland. If Highlands has improved as much as they did from 07 to 08, I don't think the Birds would dominate anybody, but I see no reason they couldn't beat either Plant or Manatee.

It's literally impossible to compliment Highlands because somebody will chastise you almost immediately.

 

Highlands is the best program ever, with the best coaches and players ever and the cutest cheerleaders around. :notworthy:

I am all for HHS getting recognized. I have been one of the biggest promoters on BGP that HHS 2009 is the best HHS team ever. But I agree with this highlighted comment above and have some disbelief that HHS is truly #1 or deserving of #1. I think HHS needs to step up and play some of the big boys to truly earn this - and one game against a GCL team is not enough. Maybe this ranking will help make that happen. Maybe it will cause some of these top teams to consider playing HHS. I think to be #1 in the nation you should have wins over 2 or 3 other top national level programs. HHS has one that is borderline as to the quality of it considering how St. X finished. Time for HHS to drop game 2 against Ryle and another non district game. Step up to play a couple of national powers (or at least Trinity and/or Lou. St. X.) and prove on the field what we all can currently just speculate about. Best wishes on the highest ranking possible and leveraging that into a schedule that will prove it is accurate.

One win against a team that couldn't win it's own region does not make for a resume of quality victories that lead to #1 in the nation. I want to see a national power program play a national power schedule. Like I said, I am all for HHS getting the highest ranking possible. I want them to have a schedule that looks like the #1 team in the nation. Although, if you get the ranking without having to play national level opponents, why should you schedule them.

Manual, Ryle, Withrow, Beechwood and Boone County. Take two of those out and play teams that leave no doubt you are #1 in the nation.

Seems like Ryle is the only NKY team that is willing to try and better themselves. I give Ryle a big thatta boy award for showing some respect to the Highlands program. Their coach even said it, to be the best you have to learn from the best. And it sorta gives them a real good measure of "how did we improve" from beginning of season to end. Dont see any other NKY teams stepping up to the plate to take on the Birds twice in one yr. Could Ryle be the new CovCath rival replacement? I think so. :thumb: 20n10

In Maxpreps Freeman rankings, there are 7 teams in the top 25 that are within a bus drive of Highlands. I would love to see a couple of those games get scheduled. Play them on a Saturday and make them marquee games that would draw large crowds.
