I think AC's Dad sitting next to Phi Sims in the Cin St. X game that was seen on national TV just might have a hand in some of this hype and if you don't think that CC doesn't hype HHS in New York, California etc, you are crazy.

 

Yes HHS is very good, very, very good, but after watching some pretty good Ohio teams over the years and some Texas teams in the past, top twenty okay, but number two? Sorry!

 

One thing to remember HHS fans, no big Cincinnati School made it to the finals in Ohio this season, so saying HHS beat Cin St. X doesn't hold water this season, as it was a down year for them and all the Cincinnati big city HS.

Now on to the topic at hand. I would love to see HHS move on up. Buuuuuttt, I have seen before that the team that beats the #1 and other higher ranked teams sometimes and I mean sometimes move up into their spot. Now, will this happen? Who knows, but it is a possibility. Sorry Bird faithful, but lets just wait until Monday evening and hope everything plays out. Go Birds, and to steal Sweep's new slogan.......20n10!!!!

Oldguy, I seriously doubt CC goes around hyping HHS. It's not in his nature to go around bragging about his kid, let alone his team. Most of the attention and talk about HHS on a National broadcast was more than likely his coworkers showing some love without the prompting of CC himself. More likely they just thought it was a neat and fun story about AC and his team. I just don't buy in to the theory that Chris goes around hawking HHS as a High school powerhouse to get his son and his HHS team National exposure for a mythical National Title. Anyone who knows him and his nature would probably confirm this for you.

You may be right, but you cannot deny the fact that CC's presence alone has the ability to impact people.

 

And that's not a bad thing.

I personally don't care how the rankings are achieved and haven't a clue how the Birds would fare against other top teams; I'm just glad to see the team getting national recognition. It's pretty neat.

With all the questioning about this and second guessing and blasting HHS about how they don't deserve it, how many on here questioned St. Aquanus(sp) being number one all year. I wonder if there are chat rooms or blogs where they are from blasting them? I'm sure the local rival is just like here, but c'mon people.

 

Why would grown mature adults get on a web site and blast a program's success? Why? Does it make one feel better? Are they tired of hearing about a program's success? Why? I know the answers but I'm afraid I will called to the Principals office(not the one in Ft. Thomas) but the State office and will be reprimanded.

 

So with that, I ask WHY?

To Highlands fans, I say congratulations. It is good to see a KY school get nationwide exposure. Whether it's in the USA Today poll or Sunday Night Football. It gives all the other programs in the state something to shoot for. I think the other guys are being realistic in their belief that Highlands may not be the number 2 team in the nation. Just because a team that was above them lost, doesn't mean that they can't or wouldn't beat Highlands. Just because someone doesn't believe Highlands is the number 2 team in the nation doesn't make them a hater.

It would matter VERY much to the HHS players and coaches that could Add "NATIONAL CHAMPIONS" to their rings that already say "15-0" and "5A STATE CHAMPS". Who wouldn't want that instead of some old cheap looking Jostens class ring!:ylsuper:

I dont remember Collinsworth and Simms sitting at any of the other 18 State Championships yrs together and Highlands benefiting from these celebrity names. Highlands was ranked nationally in some of those yrs without your cop out comment Yes AC was a big part of two other State Champ teams. Dale says it best when he is asked about the best ever at Highlands. This team stands on the shoulders of the all the teams before them. Its about consistancty OG. Win year in and yr out and you too will find the program that you support in the National rankings. Just dont do it every once in a while. Highlands is Highlands and it sounds like you have been hating Highlands probably for all 19 of those State Championships. My vote is for Highlands to be #1 in the country not #2. Highlands never has and never should consider being #2 a great yr. Dale will tell you, he wants to go undefeated every yr and win a state championship every yr and yes be National Champs. Highlands has moved from a State Powerhouse to a National player with a household name. This isnt boasting. This is a fact. I said HHS was very, very, very good and they are, but you can't deny that most who vote for the Super 25 have never or maybe have only seen most of the teams once if that.

 

Again I have seen them play four times this season and quite frankly after watching Lou St. X in the driving rain at St. X, I honestly think St. X is as good, if not better than HHS this season! Now should St. X be number 3 in the nation, if HHS is number 2?

 

Having CC co-workers bring up his son on National TV doesn't hurt HHS at all in putting out the HHS name and as was said that isn't a bad thing but I honestly don't think HHS is the second best team in the nation!

 

Sorry but that is my honest opinion and it has nothing to do with HHS and the CovCath rivalry, heck it makes a lot of teams in NKy look a whole lot better if HHS is #2.

Sweep, Oldguy is generally very diplomatic in his postings toward HHS if I'm not mistaken, but in appears as though he is drinking the water from HHS hate well on this one. Again, I think people are crazy if they really believe CC is going around hyping HHS as the best team in the Country...Like he doesn't have anything better to do or has all the time in the world to do so. AC and HHS have earned some National attention through hard work and preparation. To begrudge them something earned on the field seems a bit petty. I hope Covcath goes on to get some State and National attention soon as it's getting a bit lopsided beating them over and over, 2006 not withstanding of course!

And that's the spirit in which this whole thing should be taken. That ranking isn't based on the opinions of the Highlands fans; so its accuracy or fallacy shouldn't be thrown in our face. I think it's cool that ANY Kentucky team is on that list.
