What are you talking about??? When I wrote "CC" I was referring to Cris Collinsworth, not you, ColonelCrazy. I was thanking Cris Collinsworth for helping gain national attention for HHS. I'm not upset about anything right now... quite the opposite, actually.

One of the first things I pointed out was that this ranking was more of a testament to the PROGRAM than this season's team.

Well, you have misapplied the logic.

 

Cris Collinsworth doesn't have much pull for Kentucky football. But, he is a nationally recognized name and face. That helps in the national polls, not in the Kentucky voting.

 

When the voters are compiling their list of 25+ teams that they think deserve consideration for the top 25, I'd imagine that they hit a wall after about 15. So, they begin to look around & take other's input. Enter Mr. Collinsworth.

 

When HHS gets placed in the top 25 and they continue to win, they continue to rise up the charts.

 

I was watching a Reds game last spring and Tom Brenamen (sp?) was talking about this class in NKY having an unusual amount of talent. He then went on talking about an exceptional recruiting class from NKY. As far as I know Highlands is still in Ft.Thomas , and Ft. Thomas is still in NKY.

 

So maybe it was T.B. that let the cat out of the bag and not Mr. Collinsworth. I didn't see Mr. Brenamen at the football games ,but ya never know do ya.

You may be right, but you cannot deny the fact that CC's presence alone has the ability to impact people.

 

And that's not a bad thing.

 

I don't have a problem with it at all. Enjoy it while it lasts. I consider it beneficial to Kentucky and particularly to Northern Kentucky. I get sick of the 3 new HHS threads a day, but that's why I don't venture into the football forum as frequently during the offseason. It's mostly speculation and gloating. With that said, it's easy to understand why there is so much excitement surrounding the program and I respect that.

 

Do I think they're the 2nd most talented team in the nation? No. But, as someone chimed in earlier, these rankings are based on multiple seasons. You don't get nationally ranked by going 13-0, so it's a testament to the PROGRAM as a whole, particularly the last 3 - 4 years.

 

Do I think Cris Collinsworth's notoriety has had a positive effect on the program and its national exposure? Absolutely. I'm not suggesting that CC is out and about lobbying for votes, but there's no doubt in my mind that his publicity, combined with his son's play, has shed some extra exposure on HHS. Once again, this is a positive thing and how a lot of these national polls work.

 

Since it's impractical to set up a national HS playoff, we rely on these national polls. I'd guess that many of the voters haven't seen most of the teams play in person - in many instances, they may not have seen them AT ALL. As a result, you tend to rely on people who you know & trust. That's where Cris Collinsworth's influence kicks in. It's a testament to Highlands & the community, and should be taken as such.

HHS has been ranked in the polls several other years when CC didn't have a kid on the team.

These national polls are similar to a popularity contest, in the sense that they're all very good football programs and great football teams. How do you distinguish one from the other? Well, the first and most obvious answer is to look at the recent track record. Undoubtedly, HHS has taken care of that.

 

After that, it's up for debate. That is where having someone like Collinsworth on your side is very beneficial. He is capable of "spreading the good word" that is Highlands' football on a national scale.
